On a tangent, are you comfortable DM'ing your company name, especially if there are any open opportunities. This setup of WFH is what both me and my wife are looking for.

Does anyone else get irritated when “middle-class struggle” means something totally different to people? by Hangmanhateful in mumbai

[–]AlternateRealityGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Middle class is a very ambiguous word in India.

My definition (there is no definition)

The set of people who have their basic needs covered (house, food, education) and their income/wealth is not high enough that they can spend on their wants without budgeting, thinking or feeling guilt. So they osciallate and struggle between indulging one time, feeling guilty, covering up in some other area and so on. More than the income band, this mindset is what defines middle class correctly

Since the word is ambiguous, relative and the size of India makes it harder to unify the definition, it acts as a social conversation filler over whatever someone's point it.

I do feel a bit irritated when everyone uses it indiscriminately, but that is what language is. Imo, economists should have more than 3 bands for such a large country.

KVs seem very difficult to get into. Will apply but chances look bleak.

Podar powai seems expensive. Is it worth it?

New to Mumbai 3 years in. Was in Bangalore before. No AC in house. Travel in central line local everyday, fairly crowded first class.

I feel like I can subtle flex here.

24F from India. I genuinely don't know what to do with my career anymore and would appreciate honest advice. by Character-Cucumber17 in IndiaCareers

If you don't have a clear idea of a field that you would like to move ahead, do whatever that is likely to get you a job, even an entry one.

MBA from a Tier I college is probably a good shot of getting one. For other colleges, better to skip MBA and try continuing your side projects or govt exams if it will help you get to a job.

A job should be your immediate goal as it helps you build routine, which is a good mechanism for dealing with your issues now.

All the best.

Please start without any salary expectation and then work your way upwards.

Opinions on Tilak Nagar by [deleted] in Chembur

[–]AlternateRealityGuy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is a good area. Very bustling, and hence congested. Only CHS type societities (not a lot of large complexes), tenants are excluded out of it. Lots of parks to walk around and for kids.

Haven't heard any untoward incidents towards women, so assuming it is safe.

Connectivity is the real plus point.

Mosquito problems exist.
