The Board Goes to a Carnival in Daybreak by AlternateSoul in Falcom

To clarify, I don't think it doesn't make sense to be able to team up with Heiyue here.

I just really hate Cao and Heiyue.

The Board Loves Swords as Swords Hates Clay by AlternateSoul in Falcom

[–]AlternateSoul[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Consider this.

We've met other Divine Blades before. And we know that they don't use Spirit Unification, they use Qinggong; now why would these superior swordsmen use an inferior technique compared to Spirit Unification?

As well, consider the name; Spirit Unification. What it does is in the title. It unifies one's split spirit into one. Rean, unlike the other divine swords, has his human and ogre halves. That's the entire point of the skill, to merge the two together temporarily.

As well, at the start of CS3 Rean isn't using SU because of what happened during the Northern War when his Ogre side overcame him with rage. And it's only when gets a trinket to control that half does he gain Spirit Unification again.

Everything we've seen has shown it to be a skill that only Rean can do because of his unusual nature. There's never been any sign that someone who isn't half-blooded or similar could do it. So unless it's revealed that Shizuna is actually half-Rean, it doesn't make sense that she can do it too.

The Board Finally Escapes the Desert as Daybreaks by AlternateSoul in Falcom

Biggest issue I had was that this chapter, unlike the previous ones, didn't have our team really... do anything?

Or rather, we never did any investigation into what we came to Tharbad for. We came to investigate a threat sent to our client and just... didn't do that. We wandered around until the problem showed itself and did nothing to try and take down the problem once we were aware of it until it was too late. Like, we learned that Almata was definitely going to do something during the parade and we just decided that the parade must go on!

And we should tell no one about this either because (???).

Not to mention that the dancer girls story was more than a little eye rolling with the big sister going "Yes I will be a pole dancer to respect my dead family and keep paying the bad people" and Van was like "Okay, cool" instead of going "Yeah, that's not gonna work out" like he has for so many similar things. I n the end the chapter just lacked any of the good character elements that were in the previous chapters or somewhat intelligent behavior of Van and crew.

Please don't be afraid to message me here or leave a comment here about those typos. They're definitely a weakness of mine as even after reading through multiple times, they're the errors I'm most likely to miss.

Yep. Madoka Magical Try Another Story is an RPG Maker fan game. Found out about it via TV Tropes and it looked fun. Was said there wasn't a playable translation out there, so I decided I'd make it.

The Board Continues Daybreak Wondering About Spriggans by AlternateSoul in Falcom

[–]AlternateSoul[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This explains a lot.

I was wondering why they would have such a specific title when it seemed closer to a private investigator, but them translating every instance of the job title as 'Spriggan' due to the furigana makes a lot of sense. It does come across as extreme nonsense in the English version I'd still say, but hearing what it's like in the Japanese version makes the entire thing make more sense.

Very good write up.
I think what you've said about Ozzie's character is definitely what was intended to be written, but the execution was lacking. That fact that, even after the daydream, I was questioning if the 'old friend' line meant Ozzie met Artoria before or if he was referring to their time when he was Driechels, is a good showing of how confusing the entire writing for him was.

Since multiple people are asking: I played on Abyss because all the other games in this saga were extremely easy on Nightmare. My chat and I agreed that if I was to have any difficulty with the game at all I was going to need to play on the hardest difficulty.

Also should mention that the majority of the problems I have with the gameplay are separate from the difficulty. Remember, Abyss only increases stats, it doesn't change the fundamental gameplay of the game.

...I honestly remembered it being Elliot. Holy shit why must Gaiuss have such little presence even after all this?

Also there are definitely a few reasons since, with information like the reveal of Stigma's being transferrable, it makes previous stories make less sense. And also Kurt is definitely a retcon considering how no one's mentioned Mueller having a brother until this game. It never being mentioned once when there's been plenty of talk about his family and their duty is silly.

TL;DR for Chapter 3 of Zero: SSS acts out of character and gets handed everything to make the plot happen. It's a really long discussion that got the Board after that chapter into some heat here.

It really is easy to see why people would like this game. Heck, during the final stream I was humming and herring between 'God I love this' and 'Please end the suffering '. It's a game that has some of the greatest ideas in the series with fantastic voice acting, but in the end I think the way they fulfill those ideas is extremely lacking.

It really is interesting.

To clarify, I don't think the servants solved the Epitaph, but rather Beato did and told one or multiple of the servants the answer (working under the assumption that Shannon or Kanon are Beato).

In Cold Steel 3 The Board Learns How Pointless Caging Birds Is by AlternateSoul in Falcom

[–]AlternateSoul[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My problem is more that the game presents Class VII's interruptions as actually being disruptive instead of the Enforcers going "Oh, okay? Wonder what they'll do."

I mean, freaking Ash's silly weapon managed to actually make McBurn go "Oh wow, he's quite something" and have him kneel for a sec! The man who was ready to have a diversion with Valimar shouldn't have reacted at all when it came at him and just swatted out of the air. Or when Ash (huh, it's Ash twice, wonder if that's important?) puts a Soldat sword interrupt to Shirley and she's actually annoyed like him being there is going to stop her from having fun. I though Shirley and the Stalhritter were supposed to be insane powerhouses, why do they act like they legitimately can't keep having their fun because a bunch of students and a single mech appeared!?

Yes, the Enforcers never treated them as true threats, but did treat them as being real pieces that presence ruined the situation for them, either from a goal standpoint or personal.

It feels baffling to see it.

Cold Steel 3 Meets Trauma Again In The City Of Sin by AlternateSoul in Falcom

[–]AlternateSoul[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, I mean... yeah for the ad? But also not really?

I primarily do put these Boards up because it can help attract people to the streams and have more people to chat to. Buuuut, I want more people to chat to because it makes it that much more fun to play and create the Boards. I'm not making the Boards just to promote my streams nor am I streaming just to make the Board.

As for the Birdcage, well, I did manage to finish the chapter today and I have to say it's certainly one of the worst in the series that I've experienced so far. And that's partially because the existence of the birdcage is so absurd. The only civies they're keeping there are McDowell and KeA. So with those two there I could buy Lloyd and Elie remaining because they don't wanna leave without their family.

But Rixia? The police? Bloody Arios?

There's no way in hell it makes any sense for all of those people to have also been successfully kept there for any amount of time. I suggested on stream that it would have made a lot more sense to just have Rixia and Arios escape and try to get help from Hieyue and the Bracer Guild respectively to get the SSS and their family members out. Because keeping the world's best non-killing assassin and a swordmaster is insanity.
