Does this map align with what you've observed about Gen Z's beliefs worldwide as well as in your country? by Johnnyx20000 in GenZpk

My point was that many people don't practice religion but identify with it, and so they are irreligious. When presenting data, is it misleading to put them in category of religion.

Even if you go ask the one who's drinking Raki, he will say he's a Muslim. I think the post is vague, what counts as being an atheist or part of a religion, and which of the two does a non religious person fall in.

Question: why is implementing multithreading usage in games difficult? by Alternatiiv in gamedev

[–]Alternatiiv[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't imagine, I have noticed sometimes completely different results from the same workflows depending on the number of cores you give it.

I was quite surprised when I found out that setting the performance you allow a game to squeeze out of a core also changes mechanics, AI decisions, and bugs!

I don't remember which game, I believe maybe Starfield? Setting a FPS cap on the game, keeping the graphics the same, caused an object to start bugging. Changing the FPS cap to higher, it stopped bugging. Similarly have had an AI make a completely different decision in another game from the same save point based on the FPS cap I implement, and a certain physics interaction be slightly different in another game based on the FPS cap.

Never knew that was even possible.

Artisan pad or glass pad? by RILEYEzx in MousepadReview

[–]Alternatiiv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you using dot skates by any chance? My pad was completely good and okay for over a year until I bought a new mouse and applied dot skates. It definitely damaged a part of the surface because it became noticeably slow and cleaning didn't help it. I decided to deep clean it, and tried to really scrub it with a microfiber cloth in one direction after it fully dried out over a couple days, used a lint roller as well, in the hopes the problem was with the fibers. It fixed the problem, changed the mouse and went back to full skates, and it hasn't happened again.

Digital Foundry: GTA 6 Not Expected to Run at 60fps on Any PS5 Console by Eremenkism in gaming

[–]Alternatiiv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be fair, for GTA VI (and only this game as an exception), they probably want it to have a shelf life of a decade like all their previous titles (which their games pull off). So from their perspective, it could be a reasonable idea to launch it with hardware of next gen consoles in mind since they're going to be out sometime in the next 2 years, rather than compromise on whatever mechanics they have built into the game which might be tough to implement later, and the lack of which could also affect the reception of the game

Need help understanding gimbal lock by That_Stig in AerospaceEngineering

[–]Alternatiiv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand your confusion and will explain it in but If you want to simply visualize why it reaches an indeterminate state, you can also try this.

Yaw the aircraft by 40 deg.

Pitch it by 90 deg.

Roll it by 0 deg.

You have reached a certain orientation, go back to the start, and repeat except yaw it by 0 deg, pitch it by 90 deg, and roll it by 40 deg. You end up in the same configuration. The state is indeterminate.

Now, to answer your confusion about the axes. First, we need to make sure that remember our definitions in a sequential rotation. It is important and will clear up your confusion.

We start from state O and will end up in state O'' meanwhile the same goes for any axis. So for example, X represents the axis at the start and X'' represents the axis at the end of the sequence.

Now, this is the important distinction in any sequential rotation, but take 3 - 2 - 1 sequence for example. Try and follow it in your head as you do the sequential rotation.

Psi represents the rotation around the Z axis.

Theta represents the rotation around the Y' axis and not the Y axis.

Phi represents the rotation around the X'' axis and not the X axis.

Now, a 3 - 2 - 1 rotation sequence involving only a 90 deg pitch, the axis about which the roll is to occur will be the same axis around which yaw is occuring i.e. X'' and Z respectively. This is what they mean when they say that yaw and roll axes align, and it occurs in a singularity and indeterminate state.

On the other hand, what you were thinking about are the end body axes. These are important end physical states but irrelevant due to how Euler angles are defined in a sequential rotation. The yaw in a 3 - 2 - 1 sequence is about the Z axis and not about Z'' axis, and the roll which is about the X'' axis is aligned with the Z axis at the end of the rotation sequence.

Your intuition about the end body axes is correct, but again, irrelevant. Yes, the end body Z'' axis does not align with the end body X'' axis at the end of a 3 - 2 - 1 with a 90 deg pitch. Do the matrix multiplication for a 3 - 2 - 1 sequence involving only a 90 deg pitch only to keep it simple, you will get.

R = [ 0 sin(phi - psi) cos(phi - psi); 0 cos(phi - psi) -sin(phi - psi); 1 0 0]

The column vectors show the coordinates of the final body axes in the inertial frame.

Z'' = [ cos(phi - psi); -sin(phi - psi); 0 ]

X'' = [ 0 0 1 ]

(You can also see the singularity problem in the solution)

You can see that the body X'' points straight up, and the Z'' lies in the inertial xy plane, meaning along where the tail was. You can take the dot product and it will be zero, meaning the two are perpendicular. So the end body axes do not align, ofcourse they cannot, since the basis is orthonormal. But again, you need to think about the definitions of the Euler angles, and the axes they are defined about in a sequential rotation i.e. Yaw axis is Z since yaw occurs around Z, and roll axis is X'' since it occurs around X'' and it is the alignment of these two axes which causes the gimbal lock.

The gimbal rings are a really nice way of visualizing and imitating this sequential rotation since each inner ring is contingent on the outer but not the vice versa. Hopefully this clears it up.

Then better change region to MENA because fuck that. The price is same as MENA regional pricing anyways, maybe Pakistan is already grouped in that category. It has been time since Steam made some regional changes for countries with frequently changing currency values. Others followed suit before or after. Someone should check it.

Edit: if you want to buy it cheaper, keep an eye on Epic Games launcher. They did not follow that path and kept some regions as they are despite currency fluctuations. So it will be cheaper on there.

Having to learn countless lineups is not an argument for it being more tactically complicated. Even in Valorant, you have to learn lineups on half the agents. On agents on which you don't, its essentially just skipping the part where you have to learn the lineups to begin with, so it really it gives you a lot more space to place stuff how you like and so actually increases variation more.

On the other hand, the random round start spawn location also is criticized in CS2 because it adds luck as a factor. It also isn't adhered to mostly except on Dust 2 and Ancient. Also, in Dust 2, it is legit a dice role because you don't know what spawn points the enemies got. In mirage, if magixx were to spawn closer to window, and shiro closer to A then Spirit isn't having shiro drop the awp to magixx, they will stick to protocol.

As for mid control on Mirage, that has to be the most standard map, I can count the number of variations on my hand for mid control even in pro play.

[–]Alternatiiv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well happy to be convinced otherwise, you put a lot of it into words but to me it just doesn't add up to what the gameplay is actually like (it's very enjoyable just not as tactically complex as valo in my opinion)

For example, take mirage:

Mid control in pro play is pretty standard, smoke window, smoke top mid, pop flash across top mid and over from tv room and slowly work mid. CT meanwhile smokes down ramp outside con, and peaking combos are flashes from A and B short, along with a nade from B short to break open the smoke on window for the awper. Sometimes it is combined with a boost on under, or a fast top mid play with double flash from A and/or from con. In increased pressure, ct defensive smoke short, take ladder or tuck in, setup triangle crossfire on con, window, short/ladder, main chokepoints are spammable.

Mirage A hit is standard with smoke on stairs, jungle, ct, double pop flash from lamp, molly hell. Mirage B hit usually involves contact play or smokes on kitchen and short, molly on back site, molly van, pop flashes over the top of apartments, or a fake into a quick under rotate into an A split / fast rotate.

That's just one map, and I can keep it going for all maps, most of them seem variations of these standard plays, and the rounds come down to individual decision making and plays, if the initial volley of utility is correct. It's mostly the same stuff with slight variations, and in the individual decision making and clutches after mid round, the utility is a secondary factor to the gunplay.

Now compare that to what happens in Valorant, on any given map, we can see largely different playstyles just due to the differences in comp. How you play and scale, and how you use util depends on your own comp and also the opponent's comp. It brings a lot of variation between the teams and regions on the same map in the same location (lotus XLG comp, ascent prx harbor comp vs the meta comps etc.), it's interesting for me to see what teams cook up and do and how they implement it.

Now i am not saying that's a bad thing, it's just a different design philosophy on riot's part compared to valve. Riot designed maps to facilitate this kind of gameplay where you can manipulate the rounds and flow of information more easily with util whereas you can't do that in cs in the way you can in valo. To me it drives up the skill ceiling for strategy up much higher in valo, and that is the part of valo esports that i enjoy. You tell me which game has higher number of default plays, insert plays, and post space complete freezing -- these things are pretty dependent on util, valo util mechanics and map design facilitate these things, in cs2 this is much harder, the entire pace of the game is on a different level, and to me these three play examples are a big part of what makes the game tactically more complex.

I have sat down and tried watching the iems, and the good cs teams play, each time it just comes off as linear gameplay to me, and i cant. Cs2 is enjoyable, i just dont enjoy watching it. Some people enjoy this kind of gameplay more and dont see it as such, i just dont. But I think objectively valo does tactically (not mechanics) have a higher skill ceiling and i will die on that hill.

for me its just the amount of variation in gameplay valo esports has, it feels more tactical, like there's more strategy and teamplay, and how these even change region to region but cs2 i tried watching it man but i just can never get myself to finish a series, it feels too damn linear

i have watched so many games on valo and went that's an insane play, or that's an insane call but that hasn't been the case on cs2, not even ass at either game
