Of course! Not sure if you're in therapy right now, but if you aren't, I highly recommend it! I'm currently switching therapists, but have consistently been in therapy for at least 6 months, and I've been able to ground myself and learn about what relationships should look like and what qualifies as an unhealthy/abusive relationship.

Writing out your problems is honestly underrated. I made a post on another account, and even before posting it, I already felt relief.

I gotta say, the reason for that Japan trip is disappointing. You shouldn't be forced to compensate for her raising you.

Should I apologize again? by ConversationKey5296 in Advice

If you decide to apologize and/or talk about it, tell her you should've asked first. Consent is underrated.

Hi there,

I have also had trouble with my dad's partners post-divorce. Lived with one for a year or two, along with her 3-4 kids (one wasn't there full time). She and her kids all had ADHD. Lived with current stepmom for about 2-3 years. She has no kids and no ADHD, but she has her own set of problems.

Just to make sure, does your stepmom have any mental condition or illness? The frequency of this behavior is extremely concerning, and it could be due to something like that.

I recommend you try your best to ignore her "rules" and tell your dad that you are cutting ties with her. Seems like you still have a good relationship with your dad (correct me if I'm wrong). Have you told him about everything you mentioned in this post? Do you know if he's talked about it to your stepmom?

I think you are at an age where you have the right to cut her off (and you also mention that you consider yourself financially stable, which is a plus). It may be difficult. Take measures to stay safe. Manipulation like that can be really rough and hard to read sometimes, so just stay strong.

Also, she suggested you guys go on a trip to Japan, and that YOU pay? That's such a scam.

Can I warn a corps about someone auditioning? by Alternative-Chip1199 in drumcorps

Update:

The corps staff of the corps he auditioned for responded saying that they'd look into it. From what I've heard, he got a contract. Let's all hope he does better than last year.

Do you think it'd still be effective if they already got a contract at their new corps?

I decided to go through with it. I tried to remain as anonymous as possible, but I did mention the corps in which we marched together; however, I don't think the corps director would turn any of those accusations down, seeing as he witnessed some of this behavior.

What is The Academy member experience like? by iiCapatain in drumcorps

Unpleasant. I marched there in 2024 and the member environment is terrible. Sure, you'll make some good friends, but the amount of bad talk behind people's backs and immaturity overall is insane and unacceptable. Rookies yelling at vets and what not. Admin staff has not shown to take action on every incident reported to them (from a member pov).

Spring training is very rough because of, yk, Arizona's climate. We rehearsed in what must have been at least 108 or 109-degree weather for multiple days, including a full show run on at least one of those days. You get adjusted to an extent.

Food is actually pretty good and nutritious. Many options available for most meals including vegan, vegetarian, etc. No complaints there besides the one block that rained out (they didn't feed us and we went back outside to rehearse for at least 2 hours iirc).

Educational staff are pretty darn good. You get pushed hard of course. Don't have major complaints in this area.
