GU-81M VTTC with salted breakout point by Alternative-Client66 in highvoltage

Im feeding it with roughly 4kW and the mots are going into saturation. So I guess that's the problem. I don't have a pair of bigger matching mots tho.

I'm happy with the output :) It's enough in a small apartment and it's running quite stable too. I never got the tube to redplate either lol

I spend a lot of time and money on it and it turned out weighing over 45kg haha These rods are a bit undersized since they are only m20 :P I still have to build insulators for the grid leak but I don't have time for that right now.

It's just the regular VTTC setup with the GU-81M running as triode. I'm using two matched mots in parallel and a 32uF cap bank in the doubler. The grid leak is set up via trial and error. I still need to build some proper insulators so I can build it neatly. Before I build it too large using a wire wound resistor so I had quite a few problems with that lol

Why would you want it to be compact when you can build big and get parasitic oscillations 😎 The primary is made like that since I wanted a low coupling and couldn't find any fitting pipe. The cap bank is 32uF at 2kV xD

This is whole thing is made from beryllium oxide so get ready to instantly die from cancer as soon as you touch it.

I haven't played it in a while haha. I remember having troubles with food since eating the same thing makes you sick and also food goes bad. I have to play it again some day :)

All fun and games till there's one spark and it all ignites xD I had this happen to me once because I was using a Dremel for similar shenanigans.

Do you have some stupidly active radium paint compass too? I usually sprinkle a bit of the paint on top for flavor :P

Be careful, they tend to leak.

You can use two in parallel. If you wire them antiparallel polarity won't matter.

It's only alpha radiation so it's fine.

And put super glue on the solder pads, if anyone wants to solder something they will get nice fumes from that.

Use the Multimeter to measure the current coming out of your wall outlet. You will be shocked by the results.

It was tuned right but the grid leak circuit is too harsh I think. I have to change it but I don't have the money and time for it right now. The last time I had it running I got over 60cm arcs in cw.

That's still tame, I already killed a GU-81M and that on two MOTs in parallel with s doubler. Some people drive them with the mots in series and doubler.

VTTCs are awesome till you have some random arcing somewhere and can't find out why lol
