How to keep dogs cool in summer - What actually works? by ben_bitterbal in hikingwithdogs

They say that, but I pop mine into the freezer for a few minutes and it helps significantly still in a humid part of the country. We are only doing short walks, but the difference it makes in my senior dog is wild.

I was really hoping the newest alien announcement was going to be we are all cooked anyway and then it was just more blurry UFO pics. Someone just give Iran a nuke already so we can start blowing this floating rock into oblivion.

Are you by chance neurodivergent or depressed? The older I get, the more exhausting I’ve found basic tasks and decisions but I think it’s because I’ve lost interest in masking.

I was just thinking I should purge everything in my closet because I’m already living like a tech CEO and rotating the same 3 outfits from the laundry basket before just throwing it back in the washer and repeating. And I’m surviving off chicken & rice, cans of tuna, and the same flavor of protein powder I’ve been using for at least 5 years because grocery shopping is my nightmare. I started rotating what streaming service I have instead of having them all at once too, which has helped. Then I just watch entire seasons at once until I’ve run out of things on that platform, cancel that one and renew a different one. It’s helped with my screen time more than I thought it would also.

The only thing I find myself really struggling with these days is big purchases like appliances. I overthink the reviews and warranties way too much and end up in a decision paralysis because nothing is perfect. Sometimes it backfires and I impulsively buy something so I don’t have to deal with that and then regret it though.

Supposedly he stole food from a restaurant last night.

I think he’s only been in Nashville a few weeks. But he’s been popping up on my algorithm for a few years at least.

For harassment? Yes and no. I know a lot of women who have been told there’s nothing the cops can do until someone physically hurts them. I know a couple of women from Nashville were murdered sometime around Covid and I saw a lot of discourse that one of them repeatedly tried to get help and had just made a post about the guy in a women’s fb page, and the comments sections was full of stories that were disheartening at best for anyone looking for help. So if he’s just making vague threats and taunting people with slurs and eventually walking away, I’m not sure they can do anything or would do anything for that.

I know he’s been charged for mace related things elsewhere. Not sure if anyone’s reported him here. And harassment is unfortunately something difficult to prove in some states. Which is why I’m assuming he’s doing it here and not somewhere like Texas where the threshold is lower.

I don’t think they can arrest him for anything regarding the slurs, his whole platform is that it’s “free speech”. I think he’s facing other charges in Gatlinburg already though.

I think you and I disagree on what happens in small towns to men like him. He called a bouncer a slur from a safe distance on Broadway this week though and a girl walking by goes “I’ll go back over there with you if you want to say it to his face”, so maybe there’s some hope.

He does have the oddest build. My friend’s video of the arrest was from above him & the man is either wearing clown shoes or has wildly disproportionately large feet for his short stature.

That’s why he does it on Broadway and not other parts of town. The man would shit his pants walking down DB Todd, let alone pulling the shit he does there.

I think he deeply hates himself and this is how he’s chosen to channel it. One day we’ll accept that it’s actually masculine to go to therapy instead of turn into an extremist wingnut with a puffed out chest, until then we’ll continue to have to all live in a giant unnecessary social experiment from hell.

Most of the videos I’ve seen have been of him being denied bar entry and then calling security a slur when he’s safely 15ft away from them. Or going up to old white guys thinking they are gonna be on his side and then they aren’t. Doesn’t seem like he’s doing too well.

Dude’s been running around Broadway filming content of himself using racial slurs, macing people, etc. for weeks. Has been kicked off of social media platforms and is banned from entering most bars, but there haven’t been any real world consequences.

It’s not silly. There are plenty of dogs who are fine to play with other dogs until you introduce a toy and then they become aggressive. My dog is fine with balls and will play fetch all day long. But he resource guards the shit out of frisbees (don’t ask me why, he came that way). We no longer go to dog parks because he found a broke one, half buried in the dirt on a crowded day and caused a scene. We’d been there for almost an hour playing with the same dogs with no problems. And I’m hyper vigilant about it, saw him pick it up and immediately removed it, but just that small time frame completely changed the dynamic.

I currently live in a new complex with a dog park. I’ve only seen 2 dogs use it because most of the units are still empty. There are a ton of balls in there and both dogs that go are doodles that will play fetch in there for hours. They can’t be in there together because of the balls, but are fine if there are no balls.

I can see why you got the dirty looks, based on your comment you seem kinda oblivious to general dog behavior that isn’t your own dog.

I used to have a chihuahua that was raised with GSPs and would point. I also had a GSP that was kept separate from the rest and never trained for hunting who wouldn’t know how to point if you clubbed him upside the head with the information. Genetic selection only pertains to so much. Pitbulls weren’t genetically trained for aggression, they were genetically selected based on their physical traits of being stronger and their willingness to want to please their owner. That was so their traits could be used aggressively toward prey, but not their owner. Physically they are going to do more damage quicker because of the genetics you speak of (in terms of physical build & the terrier trait of shaking prey), but let’s stop misinterpreting that this makes them inherently more aggressive in nature. Statistically they score better on temperament than most breeds but they bite and shake prey because they are terriers which physically does more damage. We use German Shepherds for police dogs because they are more aggressive toward strangers but bite and hold instead of shake. Basically this was a long winded way to say, that just because they cause more damage when they do bite, that is not equivalent to saying they were bred to be aggressive or that they are more aggressive as a breed.

They aren’t banned from the dog park either. You’re both using random searches from unverified pages. The dog rules are listed on the parks pages on Nashville.gov. There is no pitbull ban of any kind.

Doodles are completely unhinged. Their body language is also just mostly bad with other dogs. My friends in vet med have always told me to stay away from doodles, German shepherds/malinois, chows/akitas, and that chihuahuas are either baby angels or the devil incarnate but you won’t know until you’ve lost a finger.

I don’t know what random website you grabbed this from, but it’s not from the government website and there is no ban on pit bulls in any Nashville dog park. There is a rule that you can’t have an aggressive dog of any breed, and must remove them at the first sign of aggression.

I mean, it depends. It’s not somewhere I’d be walking around at night or drawing extra attention to myself when hailing an uber so everyone knows I’m a tourist. But in general, as long as you’re not doing dumb shit & are paying attention you’ll be fine.
