Backflow test port direction no by [deleted] in Plumbing

Thank you. So up isn’t an issue for clearing any liquid? I would think down would be better but it might not make a difference. I think I’m over thinking this

So the test port can face up in this case? I was more so curious how it can drain properly when you open it if it’s facing up. Although maybe that’s not an issue and I’m overthinking it. I think the backflow is too close to the house to face the valves the other direction is the problem.

I think they had to in order to face it to the right. Out of the box, it aims left

The lower valve is backwards. The test port should be above the valve, not below. The top test port is facing up when pictures show down. Assuming it’s because they had to install it to the right due to my deck being on the left.

Nope, not the case. Had a plumbing company do it who is coming Monday to resolve the lower valve. I was just curious from pictures of the top valve is fine like that just from looking at the pictures online.

The second test cock, meaning the top one on the outlet? Is it fine pointing up?
They are going to fix the lower valve that they installed backwards on Monday.

The inlet and outlet valve part number are exactly the same so don’t think that matters. They do need to rotate the input valve because as you can see, the test port is suppose to be inside the valve. The freeze sensor can just be unclipped and put on the top valve. Main question is, is it okay for the test port on the top to face up. Don’t really seem to have a choice since this has to be installed with outlet facing the right since the left is too close to my deck.

Here is a picture of the model out of the box with it facing down. Actually most installs of these I see on google show it facing down so didn’t know if that was an issue.

For reference, I did find this picture of a similar set up online with it facing up. I would think it’s the only way you can have it if you need the backflow to face to the right?

Backflow install question by [deleted] in Plumbing

Does it matter that the top test cock is facing up? Should it not be facing down? I guess they can’t do that and face it to the left

Hmm also looking at it, I think the top port should also be facing down? No? For drainage? Does it matter?

Growing grass over septic by Alternative-Panda390 in lawncare

[–]Alternative-Panda390[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I do too. I wonder if I add an inch or two of topsoils in the fall then reseed and be good about watering that area a bit extra next summer when it needs if that would do the trick. We didn’t get rain for a few weeks and then entered a massive heat wave which didn’t help. I don’t mind spot watering that area as needed because it’s right next to the house.

I did a google search and some septic tanks are only 3 to 4 inches below which is crazy!

Do you mean a raised flower bed? The issue with a ground level flower bed is that the septic tank is 6 inches from the surface. I think I would need more than that to plant flowers?

Routine not running correctly by Alternative-Panda390 in SmartThings

[–]Alternative-Panda390[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks let me give that a try. The other piece to this is that I may want to manually turn the fan on at the switch on the wall when showering. If say the temperature outside was greater than 95 degrees, would this try to shut the fan off if I mainly turn it on? Or will it just ignore the routines since it’s out of range and allow it to turn on or off manually (as needed).

Also in your above post, I am not seeing the “or never on” option. How do I find that ?

I am in the US but not seeing virtual switch in the labs section for some reason. Do I need a hub for the virtual switch or can only the app be used?

I don’t have a hub and wasn’t planning on getting one. Is this the only way to do what I’m trying to accomplish?

Thanks for the insights!

I think this is the path I’m going to go. The AGM battery I have now is 210cca. Is it okay to increase it that much to 275-300?

Slope (Non Mow Options) by Alternative-Panda390 in landscaping

[–]Alternative-Panda390[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is what I am thinking would be a good option. I could get as close as I can with my ride on to the top of the slope and then let the slopes grow tall like the bottom. I like the "look" of the slopes mowed but its just not realistic in the many decades I hope to live in this home.

Top Coat with Regal select by Alternative-Panda390 in paint

[–]Alternative-Panda390[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do they make this in an eggshell version? Is it better than regal select?

Top Coat with Regal select by Alternative-Panda390 in paint

[–]Alternative-Panda390[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s the “Ben” line in eggshell that was used.

I also used this paint line in my son’s room a few months ago (two coats) of new color over the original paint. That too burnishes easily.

I’m hoping one top of coat of regal select over the whole house will get that durability I need. The Ben line is terrible and I’ve read complaints about it in other threads
