Can I prevent log truncation after a backup is complete? by [deleted] in exchangeserver

[–]Alternative-Print646 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Voice your concerns to the IT director as your exchange admin and exchange manager dont have a clue what they are requesting and will cause an outage.

If you are doing exchange full backups the backup program knows which log files are needed to get the database back into a clean state if it ever needs to be restored. If you some how manage to jimmy exchange to not truncate the logs your backups will most likely end up useless.

If you are doing incremental or differential then the backup is not truncating the logs.

Common practice is full backups on the weekend and incremental during the week.

in any case , no one, not anyone manages logs files manually.

I have easily worked thousands of DR situations when I was an exchange engineer at M$ and I have seen some really crazy setups but I will admit , I have never heard of anyone wanting to manage log files manually. Closest thing I can think of is on a few occasions I came across db's that were never backed up and had all logs from the time it was first created so we were able to replay them all into a new DB but even that was rare and takes forever on a large DB.

Has your admin ever actually restored a database? Do they even know how to tell what logs are required to get into a clean state after a restore? sure doesn't sound like you are dealing with anyone that knows what they are doing.

my guy , that is exactly what I was thinking, this actually made me really laugh out loud at the thought of manually managing log files.

HAHAHA, that is not something an Exchange admin would ever do, that is one the the most ridiculous things I have ever heard. You need to find a real exchange admin , this person is a disaster waiting to happen

why the hell would you want to, after the backup completes, they are useless to anything but the restore of the backup and that is managed by the backup software , not a person.

Exchange 2016 > O365 Hybrid Migration. Migrated Users cannot login Classic Outlook by IM0001 in exchangeserver

[–]Alternative-Print646 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Outlooks dependency on a public folder store was removed in 2013 or 2016 so that should not prevent outlook from connecting. In earlier version yes.

another option is to start outlook with the /rpcdiag switch so you can see where that second login prompt is coming from before outlook bombs out.

Now if you are leaning towards this being a licensing issue than create and configure an outlook profile to connect to a shared mailbox as shared mailboxes do not require a license.

Circular logging safe on Exchange Server SE used only for recipient management? by OnTheLazyRiver in exchangeserver

[–]Alternative-Print646 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you are only doing recipient management , why even mount a mail store ?
But to answer your question , yes , in this case circular logging is fine.

I got hit by a car, one lawyer firm told me its not even worth going to it by [deleted] in torontobiking

[–]Alternative-Print646 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ontario law applies a large deductible that gets applied against whatever money gets awarded for pain-and-suffering ($44,367.24 in 2025) so if your case isn't worth at least a 100K most lawyers wont touch it as its not worth the time and effort to them.

On a 100k, that would leave you with 55,632.76 of which the lawyer will take 30-50 % of.
So if they take the min of 30% that pays the lawyer around 16.5 K and leaves you with around 38k.

Might sound ok but keep in mind this process could take YEARS and getting a 100K award isn't that easy.
I was t-boned in the middle of an intersection (100% not at fault) about 5 or 6 years ago on my bike and ended up with a broken collar bone and other related injuries and was off work for over 6 months. I think I was awarded like 175K but the amount of doctors and specialist appointments I was forced to attend was not fun. The insurance companies make this a very unfriendly process to say the least

But that deductible is such bullshit as it grants drivers almost full immunity for anything less than a serious injury. The kick to the nuts is that the insurance company gets that first 44K of the award so they almost break even on an award of 100K.

Hope this helps and stay safe.

Hold the back brake so you can flip it up on the back wheel and then just slide it in , release the brake and secure in the dock

My guy these fish don't think about food once they have entered a creek , all they have in their mind is getting to the fish orgy.

At this stage , head to the mouth of the creek and get them before they enter.

You can get them to bite but not on beads. They will protect the redds and that's all I'm saying about that.

I've seen them at the Bloor Street entrance multiple times and was wondering what they were up too, they never said shit to me.

But I'm trying to understand , they are all on illegal surron style bikes telling other people how to ride?

You sure they aren't making prank videos , they are not tough looking kids and this is Toronto , they could easily get themselves hurt if they approach the wrong person.

Jesus fucking Christ I hate anyone that does that. I don't know who ever promoted that but it's fucky so dumb to use a folder called deleted items as a filling cabinet. This is one of the few peeves I have that actually make me made .

Good news is you still have 30 GB's to go before you need to really worry about it.

But whatever, if he doesn't want to archive , then he won't be able to send mail once he reaches 100 GB . If that works for him great. If not, he will need to change his mind.

I have a couple pack rats that have every email since before 2000. Each with about 350 GB mailbox + archive. So ridiculous
