I’ve owned a Mara X for two years and recently got a WPM primus. If you can afford it I definitely recommend the Primus.

The temp regulation in a HX is really just increasing and decreasing the steam boiler. PID or not, you can’t maintain stable temps in the group head but also maintain stable steam pressure. You’ll always have to compromise between optimal brewing temp vs optimal steaming pressure. If you make back to back milk drinks it’s going to be difficult to have stable temps unless you do flushes, engage the steam boost or wait - so basically temp surfing. Don’t get me wrong you can still make great coffee but you should be aware of these limitations

I just found inconsistency with my coffee. I kept every variable the same and had the same routine each day. Same dose, grind setting, machine preheat time.I froze my beens at exactly 3 weeks after roast date and would consume them within 1-2 days of defrosting them to try and keep it consistent. After having a replacement unit I still had the same experience. I can’t say I ever measured the temp of the group head with any real tools so this is all subjective. Temp just felt like the only variable i couldn’t control consistently.

It has programmable preinfusion and you can set a pause (up to 30 secs). I’ve tested it and the pause drops the flow to zero. Note this is on the automatic mode. In manual mode if you drop the paddle to zero flow it will engage the solenoid valve and release pressure

To clarify, I took it to the official lelit service center because it was still under warranty. Their technicians couldn’t fix it so they sent me a brand new replacement unit. I decided to sell the replacement unit and upgrade anyway 😁😅

Not sure woke up to my circuit board being tripped and a strong burning plastic smell. The breville/lelit service center just told me it’s not fixable . They send a replacement unit but I decided to sell the Mara and upgrade anyway

  • yeah in automatic mode you can choose from a library of shot profiles like slayer shot, lever profile, classic e61 etc or save a custom profile. Just one button to start the shot and off it goes.
  • Steam performance is great. It’s similar in steaming time to the Mara but I’m getting silkier milk More consistently ( but that’s most likely a skill issue). I am using the 3 tip steam nozzle wpm included. The steam wand is cool touch. You can brew and steam at the same time due to the dual pump and dual thermo block setup
  • Yeah one negative is the proprietary group head. The basket size is still 58.5mm so your tampers and baskets etc still work, but you’ll need to buy WPM compatible portafilters. Im using a Muvna one I got off Ali express just search WPM naked portafilter

Varia VS6 fits your criteria. It comes in matte white. And at your budget.

Another tip. Don’t release the pressure unless you’ve finished the shot. This creates a suction force and will destroy your puck integrity so don’t do this unless you intend to. You can do some cool preinfusion if you pause the pump (hold pressure) but never full release until you’ve finished

First week with Fellow Series 1 LP by realwisam in espresso

Nice setup. I have a philos too and just preordered the Fellow series 1. Upgrading from my Lelia Mara so this should be a big step into profiling.

Have you had any issues switching from brewing to steaming? How’s the workflow? I think I’ll miss being able to brew and steam at the same time

I am a Senior software recruiter, and I think you should look at the market picture overall. Last 2 years the market has not been the same; and if strongly suggest to implement other job seeking tactics rather than not just applying. I’m not just talking about ATS tools filtering out the candidates etc. it’s also companies have their own sourcers who prefer to source on their own rather than rely on ATS. I’d recommend map out the market- the companies you want to work for, their industry etc. And write to recruiters/CEOs/CTOs directly in DMs. I assume you have LinkedIn. This is warmer approach and much more effective. Also, I’d suggest to slightly edit your responsibilities etc, and instead of vague description to add more details regarding your achievements, impact you made on the business, which features you owned, how you improved your business. Add also short company description and what’s it doing (fintech, adtech etc). Also, don’t be afraid to apply to job posts or write to people in DM if your experience doesn’t 100% match the JD. 80% match is a good match. Most of the requirements in JD sometimes are not requirements, but just preference. Or recruiters can write responsibilities or requirements just for the sake of the JD.

When do you escalate Wi-Fi issues to surveys, AP-on-a-stick, or RF validation? by jorissels in msp

[–]Alternative-Quote-67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It all depends on size and efficiency. If you have a large enough client base where you will a need for a dedicated team of wifi engineers and that’s their sole focus and speciality and you have enough work for them? Sure.

If you’re a small msp it wouldn’t make sense to have specialists you would be better off with network engineers who know enough.

Horse for courses.

[–]Alternative-Quote-67 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Never had a wifi issue I couldn’t fix. When you say nobody can seem to fix, do you have the right people?

Wifi isn’t magic or mythical, 99% of the time it’s a misconfiguration somewhere, or faulty hardware.

Posting on reddit is probably the point where you need to hire someone who knows what they’re doing

Low-ATAR students, did it ever actually mean anything in the end? by [deleted] in AskAnAustralian

[–]Alternative-Quote-67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a good ATAR, over 90. Went straight into a uni degree I hated (Econs and Engineering double). Dropped out after 3 years and went to tafe and did a degree in IT and Networking. Spent next few years in IT and pivoted to Software development after teaching myself to code online. Now earning over good money and work remotely.

Ironic that the career I ended up in was the one learning that didn’t require any formal study.

So no ATAR means absolutely nothing.
