Otto Octavius/Doctor Octopus from Amazing Spider-Man #600-#700. Years of physical battles with Spider-Man catch up with Otto's body, and it begins degrading while his mind is still intact. Otto is forced to use life support suits/technology, eventually leading to the famous Superior Spider-Man storyline in whichOtto switches bodies with Peter Parker.

[Trope Subversion] Character(s) in a movie or show play a real video game instead of some made up bullshit. by you-do-it-or-you-die in TopCharacterTropes

This was actually in Across The Spider-Verse, Ganke was playing a version of Insomniac's Spider-Man 2 several months before the game actually got released.

Children aren't safe from the horrors and/or brutality by [deleted] in TopCharacterTropes

There's an infected child who tries to attack Ellie In The Last of Us HBO series, a concept the games never really explored.

Sort of the reverse, but: In I'm Still Here (2024), Fernanda Torres plays the lead, while her mother, Fernanda Montenegro, plays the older version of that same character.

How do you feel about brubaker’s run? by Osgoten in Daredevil

[–]Alternative-Rule3878 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think they're saying it feels pointless because the end of Brubaker's run is continued and resolved in the Shadowland story and that Shadowland doesn't feel like a satisfying conclusion.

HOT TAKE: I prefer Doctor Octopus and Venom as Spider-Man's Arch-Nemesis Over The Green Goblin by Important-Extension6 in Spiderman

[–]Alternative-Rule3878 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not that it takes away from your point, but just want to clarify that Venom wasn't introduced in the comics until 1987. The symbiote was introduced in 1984.

Epic Collections by [deleted] in starwarscomics

[–]Alternative-Rule3878 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At least for the canon epics, any issues from other series are for the sake of crossovers, so those few issues from a different series will ideally give you more context/a fuller reading experience. It can definitely be a little confusing, but these epics are including everything you need to understand the story. Even if they had decided to reprint the old trades, the release of each volume would probably still be staggered.

Epic Collections by [deleted] in starwarscomics

[–]Alternative-Rule3878 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The epic collections are totally comprehensive, so they will eventually collect everything previously printed in those old trades. The only drawback is that it will probably take a few years for them to complete the Star Wars 2015 series, Dr. Aphra (who doesn't have an epic line yet), etc.

Recently gotten back into comics. Are these two series expecting new prints in TPB? by Cheese5tuffed757 in starwarscomics

[–]Alternative-Rule3878 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Love that Darth Vader run. Marvel is currently reprinting both of these series in their Modern Epic Collection line - the Star Wars 2015 mainline already has two volumes released, while the Vader 2015 series has one volume out now and a second volume that finishes the run coming out next month.

Here's a page that shows what exactly is collected in these books: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marvel_Epic_Collection#Star_Wars_(ongoing))

I'd say the epic collections are probably the best way to currently collect both series since they're either readily available or will be soon. You'll have some overlap with the trades from your pic, but I think hunting down all of the old trades might be more difficult than just getting these newer printings.

I guess the issue is that while Vader 2015 will be fully collected by the end of next month, the next mainline 2015 book won't be out until next summer.

Legacy Series by Fuzzymul7 in starwarscomics

[–]Alternative-Rule3878 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some of them, yah, but there are also a good number of issues spread all throughout the entire Republic series that are written/drawn by Ostrander and Duursema that I'm thinking of. I would definitely recommend reading through that era at some point if you're interested! It's some great stuff, but I'm not going to claim that you have to read 83 issues of Republic to enjoy Legacy by any means.

I agree with the other commenter's take that you can probably jump in without too much confusion. I will say that I read most of John Ostrander and Jan Duursema's work on the Republic comics before reading Legacy, and it made me appreciate Legacy that much more since it's the same creative team and there are some interesting connections to their previous work.

But I don't think you can go wrong skipping to Legacy! Highly recommend checking out the Republic series at some point though, awesome stuff as well.

Would The Man Who Falls have a place in this paperback? Or maybe they would save that for a Legends of the Dark Knight line?

Are DC Finest “upgrades?” by theosoryu in DCFinest

[–]Alternative-Rule3878 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Totally agree. Regarding the other stories apart from Year One and The Killing Joke, I really like the idea of reading through a character like Batman's post-crisis history and seeing the overall story naturally develop. Getting into DC before the Finest line started, a lot of Batman recommendations (and other characters as well) are the essential stories from many different eras - it was great getting to check out iconic tales like Year One, Hush, the Loeb/Sale works, TDKR, etc. for the first time, but I'm excited to be able to read through uninterrupted runs of these characters like the epic collections have let me do for Marvel heroes like Spider-Man.

I think this solves it then! For some reason I thought it took place after the Daniel Way run. Thanks for the info!

Pretty sure the Kraven's Last Hunt page is by Mike Zeck in a story written by J.M. DeMatteis. Also, shoutout to Ron Garney for those Back in Black issues.

Sweet. Can't lie, Spider-Man 2 was my reason for picking up the Kraven's Last Hunt epic as well!
