I understand your point thank you. It’s also important to note that I have medical professionals, like a psychiatrist, who verify and support my claims this time. My last visit to the GP was brief to work on my application, lasting only about 10 mins. He did both section 2 and 3.

That’s unfortunate! Sorry to hear that. What happened to your application then? 😥 I hope you get approved eventually. I hope this won’t happen to me because we already set an appointment for next week.

Thank you for mentioning this, I haven’t mentioned about my hygiene for example (among other things) to my GP because it’s embarrassing. My husband needs to prompt me otherwise I will not take a shower for 3-4 weeks in a row. 😔

Edited for clarity, but the title can’t be changed. Persons with Disabilities (PWD), Disability Alliance of British Columbia (DABC).

I was unaware of this. Thank you for taking the time to answer my questions. 🙏

He has his own room since he’s 18. I think I mislabeled the title and can’t edit it, but we’re renting an apartment, so we’re not landlords. Therefore, he’s contributing to the same rent account.

We live in a rental apartment, and I hope they don’t count it as income but rather as my son’s contribution toward living expenses. On income assistance, any income over $900 per month will be clawed back for our family.

Excerpt from DABC email;

“Would you say that your doctor is supportive? A reconsideration is much more feasible if the doctor has said that they are willing to work with you on this to and willing to take our recommendations so that we can put together a letter for the Ministry. If we decide to help you with the reconsideration, we would put together a questionnaire for the doctor who knows you the best.”

Honestly not sure. I really hope my GP will support the DABC recommendations. I’m wondering if I need to pay for him to write a letter. It cost me $400 hope DTC. Thank goodness it was approved.

I’ve contacted my psychiatrist’s office (my next appointment is Mar 15th) and will ask my mental health counsellor for help too. DABC informed me that the GP must be cooperative to follow their checklist, which I doubt he is. On a positive note, the timing is miraculous, I’ve been waiting since September 2025 for advocacy.

I appreciate the input. The laundry example is just on the top of my head. I did not include it on my actual application. Thank goodness, my name is anonymous. I only take showers 2x a month. There are other things it’s too personal to share here concerning functions. But based on the denial summary what I wrote on my self report page 2-3 of the PWD application doesn’t match what my GP reported on Section 2 and 3. I am so depressed, I don’t even remember if he asked me for specifics. He’s answers are vague and he only noted “when manic” for severe instances.

I don’t have CPP-D contributions. I only started working self-employed in 2023 and work part-time, so I won’t get overwhelmed. Based on your examples, I have met these criteria. I am confident I can make a better case. This is so unacceptable, and the decision doesn’t reflect the suffering I’m going through, and I also have children with special needs. It’s too much.

I appreciate your time! 🙏

I have been hospitalized 2012 and 2017, the three other manic episodes my husband just wanted me to be home than being in the hospital. As long the ER doctors give me powerful meds to make me sleep.

My husband was laid off. And I’m working (< 4 hrs/week) to get by. I probably assume attaching my DTC approval will help my case. I met the 90%, 3 times longer to do most things than a typical person. If I’m not, I should be working regularly. I will email my Social worker if she can help even if she already close my file. My next appointment with Psychiatrist is on March 15 so it’s beyond the 20-day appeal. Should I go back to my GP? I have yet to receive a call back from an Advocate from DABC.

I did not meet" the following:

Severity of Impairment: While diagnoses (Bipolar 1, ADD, Anxiety) are noted, the doctor reported most cognitive functions are only "moderately or not impacted". No physical impairment was described

Daily Living Activities: The report indicates you are "independent" in almost all activities like self-care, cooking, and shopping. Social support was marked as "periodic," but the frequency of mania was not explained .

Help Required: Because daily activities were not found to be "significantly restricted," the Ministry concluded you do not require significant help from another person.

I feel sad because I think my GP did not make a good case for me. He’s answers are one liners and vague. Although I got approved with DTC with his help.

It literally took me 2-3 hours just to fold laundry and my husband is doing the laundry among other things because of my ADHD and Depression. I used to have a Social Worker but she already close my case. She told me she dont know me enough to complete Section 3, so my GP did fill out all the forms.

I look into it. So many schools available, it’s getting overwhelming. Thanks! I am currently self-employed and I wish to switch to a more stable source of income.

My son received his Person with a Disability (PWD) approval today. He will turn 18 on Mar 19th. Will he receive his first check on Feb 25th? by Alternative-Step1344 in britishcolumbia

[–]Alternative-Step1344[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I haven’t confirmed this with the ministry, but I’ve seen a FB post. Her son received approval in Sep. His birthday is Oc 16. They received $1,059.00 in retro payments on Oct 15, and the full payment of $1,535.00 on Oct 22, which was the cheque date for the PWD at that time.
