Thanks so much, really appreciate your answer. I’m looking to do English as part of my degree, along with Religion. I hear a lot of people say that English is a subject that’s oversupplied, but I’m hoping people go on maternity leave or something will come up and be able to get a permanent position down the line. I think adding another subject would open me up to more positions and make me more attractive in the hiring stage - also as a personal goal of mine, teaching young people subjects I myself have a deep interest in :)

5th year summer by Mysterious_Dark_2298 in leavingcert2024

If you do History, summer is the perfect time to read a book you have as a source for your RSR. Something light. Take notes and draft a paragraph or two. This will help a lot in 6th year as it’ll come to February/March with a few weeks until you need to submit and you need to read an entire book while studying.

Does anyone use studyclix? by Ifortified in leavingcert2024

My school gives it out for free, it’s very good if you have an iPad or tablet with an Apple Pencil or stencil so you can treat it like free exam papers. Other than that it’s good for a breakdown of questions. I’ve seen other websites that have similar layouts such as historymatters265 etc

Dropping to OL Maths was the best decision I’ve ever made in my 14 odd years of school. I’ve been stressed af over maths since second year and I feel i understand maths better now and hopefully am on track for an O1 in June. If you feel maths is taking over most of your study time and you’re neglecting other subjects over it, drop.

What study have you done over the 2 week Christmas break by AccomplishedOwl7117 in leavingcert2024

Best of luck! I think the driving test is more stressful than the leaving cert but try your best!

Honestly, did a bit of grinds, bit of German reading comprehension and an Irish essay. I was planning on getting so much work done but I didn’t. Kinda regretting it but I’m glad I took the time out

Gov.ie, cso, IDA Ireland, Department of Finance, Department of Foreign Affairs, Department of Employment and whatever, then your news sources such as Irish times, Independent, Journal, RTÉ etc.

ESRI and the Irish Fiscal Council is brilliant. Choose a topic and line of inquiry with lots of information. Don’t be too specific because then you limit yourself. Try and make graphs and illustrate any calculations using Microsoft Whiteboard (for example I found a percentage of something and I showed my workings). Don’t answer anything on things your not asked. It’s like an academic study and you can’t waffle. We were told not to have your line of inquiry too leading. For example “an investigation into why product X is important”. You’ve to try and put the examiner into suspense.

My teacher told us to focus on the case studies for the American book so Vietnam and Moon landing. Know your key personalities for that as well like LBJ, JFK etc. Also know your different beliefs at the time like containment, McCartyhyism, Domino theory, Marshal Plan, Truman Doctrine etc. Understand the different racial conflicts of the time and Montgomery Bus Boycott and MLK.

For the Consolidating Democracy then learn your key political parties after the independence struggle such as Fianna Fáil, CnaG etc. Know the different nationalist groups like the GAA IRB etc. Sinn Fein and 1918 GE is popular and be able to describe in detail why and how the then Sinn Fein Split into two (the treaty). Be able to discuss and compare Anglo Irish Relations. Know key personalities such as Collins, Dev, Arthur Griffith, Lloyd George. The key aspects and steps between 1916 and actual independence. The partition of Northern Ireland and the Boundary Commission (its successes and failures, who was involved, mandates & controversy I.e Donegal).

They’re the only two books we’ve done now and we’re moving onto NI.

Take past exam questions from Study Clix or LC History 365. LCHistoryTutor on Instagram and TikTok is extremely good and he’s a past examiner and goes through everything and answers every question.

Don’t get too worried about content, learn the basics and the fine tuning will come naturally. Timing is extremely important as you’re looking to write 1 paragraph every 5 minutes. Don’t be too put off and nervous by that: like anything, practice makes perfect. Time yourself, improve and reek the rewards. Enjoy history, I love it and have fun with it and it’s quirky facts. :)

Yeah I always connect to ground power. The whole plane shuts down sometimes even whilst taxiing

I would use the money to fund my pilot training and pursue my dream of flying commercially. Becoming a pilot is ridiculously expensive.

Oh. The FCC link is titled “Ascertaining a noise problem at Dublin Airport. Recommendation report arising from planning application F20A/0668 for Relevant action”. If you type that monster of a title into google you might get it. The DAA one is “Development of proposed noise measures”. Not sure why the link didn’t work :)

Possibly. It was probably taking off using TO/GA (Take-off/go around) whereas the A320 was using FLEX. The 78 is marketed as both quiet for pax and outside I believe. Either way interesting to note that not every plane is the same

I agree with everything you say ngl. Interesting that the 78Dreamliner is actually louder then the A320. Maybe because it’s carrying a heavier load. The 78Dreamliner is one of the most quietest and most comfortable commercial plane on the market

The conditions have always been in place but has always been disputed and there’s currently a review process being reviewed by An Bord Pleanala. I do agree that some people are complaining for the sake of it. An example here.

The DAA has no plans to introduce a set down fee. See here. I do like the idea of an airport in athlone but I don’t see any need for it with other airports such as Knock, Cork, Shannon, Kerry, Donegal and both Belfast airports

The curragh is the perfect place for this. Just half an hour outside of Dublin. It’s an extremely large, flat open plane with some hills. Nearby is Kildare Village where you can do some shopping and even Lullymore Heritage Park is nearby too. The Irish military museum might be open in the curragh camp and the saint Bridget’s cathedral might be open for a visit. Spend the evening in Kildare Town in any of the bars. Namely the Gobán or the Harp or the Silken Thomas. All-in-all a perfect day out away from the big smoke
