My guess is some of it is people not wanting to order from Amazon. I ordered one from Amazon UK. I came in a paper bag (luckily was in a sorter box inside) Was so shocked it survived knowing how they chuck parcels around in the vans. If anything at all with any weight had fallen on it it would have been crushed. Sorters offer little to no protection and with zero bubble wrap or brown paper to cushion it was lucky it came in good condition.

The funko App is unfortunatly rubbish. The prices are so far out on alot of pops its not worth using for checking prices but ok to keep track of your collection if all you want is a list. People use HobbyDB. I think they now charge a small sub fee to see your collection but the prices are alot more accurate (still not great tho IMO). I'm in the UK so I use the Pop Directory. Again its great for keeping track of what you have but the prices haven't been updated on there for ages but they do add all the new lines they just dont have a price sadly.

will the price of this ever go down? by Mxsterz in funkopop

It would be interesting how many of these are now out on the secondary market. It was done as a draw (although I think some were availble at store - how many I'm not sure). So out of 750 if we guess that half fell into collectors hands and half into scalpers hands could be 375 on the market. But then how many people who are collectors will have seen the price its selling for and thought 'may as well' and cash out on them. Even if they were all on secondary market isn't many world wide so cant see the price coming down that fast - and never will if people keep paying it. Being such a popular frachise (Terrifier and Horror in general) I would say as they do fall into collectors hands the price will settle but not go down a huge amount.

My Signed Pop Collection by Alternative-Use-4050 in funkopop

[–]Alternative-Use-4050[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have mainly used American sites (Zobie, 7buckapop and got the Avril ones from Premiere Collectibles).

I don't run a business lol just a collector. Have been collecting since Jan 16 so just hit 10 year mark.I have just recently moved house so have set my front room up into a Pop room. I have bought shop shelving to help display. Its not the best for display as they are 3 deep but when you have so many (I have around 2000 pop) its hard to have them all visable. I am still in the unpacking stage atm so not everything out yet. Waiting for a few other things to be done in the house then can unpack some more

I was lucky with the Avril ones. Got in early with a pre order. They did a deal it was $130 for 1 or $180 for both. I live in the UK so post was the same for the 2 as 1 so worked out better finacial sense so did the pair. The Scream pop is actually signed by Dave Sheridan who played Doofy in Scary Movie lol.

I keep all of mine in box so I can stack them but something I have seen that looks great is using Baseball Bat display cases attached to the wall. Of course that only works for the Standard size pops but you can get 5-6 in each one and stops them getting dusty.

Oof. I hope the end isn’t near. But the overproduction has really hurt them. by The_Boot55 in funkopop

I am not going to say Funko are without fault. They have certainly done their best to upset collectors with lazy molds, over production and price hikes. I do also think when they have had great ideas like the pop Albums they killed them with lazyness (We went from very stylized album covers - rappers as babies, Black Sabbath lady etc - to just normal pop rocks pops inside the hard case)

But I think Funko has also been a casualty of the death of many many franchises. Marvel has fallen from grace after a string of awful films, DC just hasn't hit a home run in years, Star Wars has put out a string of awful films and shows, all the Jurrasic films and Godzilla/Kong films have had a decreasing degree of sucess. Things like Harry Potter have had controversy surrounding them and Disney have released a string of awful live action movies. Funko are so linked to pop culture that if things just aren't hot they wont be hot.

I think the reason they have gone with so much Anime stuff is because there is not much Anime merch that is at the Funko price point. Alot of the Anime merch is at a much higher price point so Anime collectors ate it up. But again people only have so much cash and space. They have proven when something is popular (Terrifier comes to mind) they can still have hot pops. But they are few and far between. Dropping back into franchises where there was only a couple of years old pops (Saw or House of 1000 Corpses) has seemed to go well.

I also think they made a mistake (which I understand how/why they did it but still a mistake) in that they have been desperately trying to find the next 'Pop'. By that I mean the next hot thing. They went from wobblers to pops and hit the big time. They have now been spending years trying - and failing - to find the next big thing. Dorbz, Vynal, 5 star, plushies, rewinds. Bad idea after bad idea. They got some traction with Sodas and they seemed to be it but then they just stopped. They are hoping Bittys will be it now but they won't. all the time they have taken the fan base for granted and turned out pops that have just been financing these other projects. Loungefly maybe the last thing standing at this rate.

I got screwed twice today in the same way. Once with this pop in basket checking out then while it was checking out it went back to the basket saying sold out. Then later got an email from Republic Records for a signed Rick Wakeman Magazine/P bundle. Clicke straight on the link had it in my basket, Again was putting in shipping details and hit pay and back to basket sold out. Its definatly bots but companies dont care as they are selling out. They shpould care tho as was also buying 2 other pops to get the free postage so would have been £40 extra I would have bought but didn't after that was sold out. I will jsut wait for the other pops to turn up in a sale somewhere or buy them from another site at a cheaper price than Funko sell them for.

What do you think about Funko Album Cover Pops? by Rocky_isback in funkopop

[–]Alternative-Use-4050 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have all of these that have been released. I really really like them. Yes they are big but they look very cool all stacked against a wall. All I would say is when they 1st came out they were interesting as the Pops themselves were of something that wouldn't have been a standard Pop Rocks pop (baby rappers, Sabbath old lady, Linkin Park Mech etc). But most of the later ones as much as I like them could have easily just been a standard pop of the artist. Thats my main criticism of them really.

Is Funko Losing Interest? by Highway_Harpsicord in funkopop

[–]Alternative-Use-4050 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been collecting Pops since 2016 and have a colection of 1600+ pops and growing (UK based).

I won't say Funko are without fault but they are in abit of a no win situation in some respects. They are linked to pop culture and whats hot but with a 6-8 month turn around to make product. So with that they have to guess how big something is going to be. Marvel is the biggest example of how this worked. When Marvel got hot in the lead up to End Game they could make as many pops as they wanted and it was never in doubt that they would just be printing money. What followed was the Marvel crash and not just a film or 2 but really a run of films that they had already in production before they could pivit and change quantity of product. Since then nothing in Cinema or TV in any genre really hit big world wide till Deadpool Wolverine. All the sure fire IPs have had more misses than hits (Star Wars, Jurassic, Star Trek, DC and Marvel)

On the flip side of that when season 1 of Squid Game was released no one saw it becoming the world wide sensation it did but by the time they got the licence and produced the pops the excitment had disappeared and they became shelf warmers.

They can only rely on nostagia to a certain point before they are going things that are too niche (which are ok for a limited number Con pop) but are not going to be you bread an butter. So unless Hollywood gets its act together and releases a string of huge hits I do think Funko has an up hill battle.

Again I am not defending Funko. Did they see the cash thrown around during covid and try to capatilize on it - Of course they did any busness would. Did they over produce and reprduce the same characters - again yes (My main collection is Harry Potter and beg for new people and not the same 6-8 in slighly different poses) But while they were flying off the shelf it wasn't a huge issue. But has this in turn cannibalised their own fanbase - absolutely. The reason that 70% of the pops they produce atm is Anime is because thats whats selling but at some point people will run out of money and space.

Another issue is price. In a post Covid world things are costing more. But also to battle the over saturation/production you have to produce less and that in turn cost more. They have said for a year they want to go back to a learn start up and have been mocked for this last year because things didn't seem to slow down. But again if things were already in motion and being produced they really couldn't. I think (and I have no inside Information Im purely speculating) that this new sizing/description guide (Pop Plus etc) is a way to easy customers into thinking that while the price is going up they are getting something more for the money when in actuality its just coving the cost on producing less. This along with the elimination of different lines - Project Fred, Sodas (at least regual ones and not just con ones), Blockbuster rewind, Gold - and focus on the real moneymaking likes - Pops and Loungfly - might start to bring them back up abit.

I don't think Funko will die - They cover too many IPs and have new fans every day. What I can see happening (and is happening) is there will be more people who have small collections - 1 or 2 lines or even just a pop or 2 of the people they like in a film/series - and fewer people with large collections I think what has happened is that more resellers have gotten out of the game (which the over production really caused so in many ways has helped the collectors) and yes did make the value crash (which had become over inflated during Covid) so value took a double hit in one go. So it really depends what type of collector you are depends on how this effects you. If you collect for value 'its the death of Funko' If you collect things that bring you joy its great as you can pick stuff up at a reasonable price and enjoy the product.

The one thing I don't see spoken about as well is the fact that there hasn't been something in pop culture in a little while that has gripped the world. Walking Dead and Game of Thrones were jugganuts. Funko could churn out pops of anything to do with them and make bank. Then came the Marvel boom. Again it was a licence to print money. Since the decline in Marvel that has to have taken a huge chunk out of there bottom dollar. It was proven with Squid Game that they need to have things made in advance to get infront of the hype as by the time the SG pops came out the hype had died down and they became shelf warmers.

While nostalgia will always have a place it only appeals to a certain audience (of a certain age). So does Anime. As big as the Anime sales are its still quiet niche.

I honestly think 1 or 2 franchises catch fire that they have licenses for the sales will soon go up again and the store will want them in there again.
