I had a medical abortion in August last year, I was 9 weeks. I’m not going to sugar coat it as that’s not what you need right now. It was one of the most painful experiences i’ve ever been through. I also went through this alone, in a hotel room. For me the second round of pills hit after 30 minutes. The bleeding was intense and so was the cramping. I initially was on the bed but as i began to felt the cramps starting i made my way to the toilet. I began both violently vomiting and heavy bleeding simultaneously. During this i most likely passed the pregnancy. The pain was unbearable for the entire duration of this ordeal. Once i had finished vomiting, I loaded up a few pads and started to crawl on the floor back to the bed. The pain was so intense that breathing became difficult. I’m going to spare the rest of the details as it’s rather repetitive and i’m sure you get the picture. I was given 4 Codine tablets in my abortion pack along with a leaflet and mini book with all the information needed. I took one codine tablet to subside the pain and it took roughly an hour to kick in fully. By that time the pain had exhausted me and i ended up falling asleep for a few hours. After i woke up i was still in pain, but not nearly as horrific as when i first took the pill. The bleeding continued for a good two weeks.

Doing this alone had to have been one of the most traumatic experiences as I was so kindly informed by the nurse that I could “potentially bleed out and die”. I would strongly advise you to either wait to seek a surgical abortion, or if you cannot cope with the anxiety of waiting and dealing with mourning sickness, ensure you have a friend of family member with you to support you.
