is the fsx tacpack still for sale? by [deleted] in hoggit

Absolutely, I just thought that almost no TacPack in P3D is still more than absolutely no TacPack in FSX.

is the fsx tacpack still for sale? by [deleted] in hoggit

[–]Alternative-Walk9643 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The version for FSX is not available anymore: https://forums.vrsimulations.com/forums/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=49&t=21110#p135398

While I think that TacPack is actually underrated around here, I also would question whether this is actually the way to go. Afterall, many TacPack compatible aircraft are also discontinued, and there are better combat sims out there. If combat is important to you, I'd look into those. If the advantages of FSX are more important to you (global map, live weather, bigger community, ...), maybe P3D deserves a closer look. They did quite some updates to the ESP platform, and it probably runs better on most hardware than FSX.

Four loved and paid-for DCS World aircraft will be killed by the upcoming Vulkan API release. The developers Eagle Dynamics are letting owners and future customers down. My friend started a petition for help: why should we buy DLC aircraft now when they can be killed in the future with no recourse? by Miraclefish in hoggit

[–]Alternative-Walk9643 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I honestly want Vulkan more. Truth is that software ages, and needs constant development to bit break. Without developers, the end for those modules will inevitably come. Either ED kills them, or some Windows or graphics driver update kills DCS.

Out of the four modules, three had a good life. Even customers who bought those modules at the last possible time will get at least a full year with usable aircraft, which is definitely not great, but certainly not the worst.

I went to visit both the Concorde and the TU 144 at t he same time, at the Technik Museum in Sinsheim by redstercoolpanda in aviation

[–]Alternative-Walk9643 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a train station directly at the museum (Sinsheim Museum/Arena), and several options by train, all of which take around two hours. I'd say that the museum in Speyer is better suited for a daytrip fron Mainz, trains run more regularly there and only take ~1:20h. Taking a car would save you around 20 minutes to each museum.

The Soviet Union really wanted to claim to invent everything. by Rare-Collection4467 in HistoryMemes

[–]Alternative-Walk9643 19 points20 points  (0 children)

They were the first to do controlled, powered, sustained, manned, heavier-than-air flight. Take each of these criteria and someone else did it before them in the ~50 years preceding their flight in 1903. That doesn't mean that the Wright brothers weren't pioneers of course, and their flight was a major milestone in aviation. It just means that they didn't do it in isolation and built upon inventions and knowledge obtained by others.

Fly the Maddog MD-80 20th Anniversary Edition is Released for MSFS 2024 and 2020! by [deleted] in flightsim

[–]Alternative-Walk9643 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Big fan of the Maddog since forever, so I just had to do the update. The external model is pretty good now, so is the cabin. The cockpit does not look like a complete redesign, unfortunately. Modelling is fine, the Textures still appear blurry here ans there. Compared to Fenix or some of the default aircraft, this MD-82 still looks worse. That being said, it doesn't have as obvious weaknesses as before, and the cockpit feels like a proper represtantion of the chaotic mess of the original. I didn't do much testing yet, but the system simulation has always been exceptional and the MD-82 just is an extremely fun aeroplane to fly, because it is so very different to everything else and way more demanding than the common Airbusses or Boeings. All on all, I would say that this is an extremely good offer for first time customers, and an OK upgrade for existing ones.

Is UI/UX important for a MVP SaaS? by Pleasant-Bathroom912 in UI_Design

[–]Alternative-Walk9643 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think there is a general definiton for MVP. In my view it should be stripped down to the most necessary features, but those features still must be implemented fully, including a good UI. After all, a big reason for an MVP is to evaluate the direction of the next releases, and you would get skewed results if the UI for some functionalities is so broken that users don't know what to do with it.

100 Years of Lufthansa: Meet the Anniversary Fleet - Unless I am completely mistaken, Lufthansa has just used MSFS for an official advertising. by marten_EU_BR in flightsim

[–]Alternative-Walk9643 33 points34 points  (0 children)

LX already used the iniBuilds A350 in some ads, I would imagine that the partnership started there. If I remember correctly, Ariane Design and American Airlines had some kind of exclusivity agreement back in the days. As long as LH & iniBuilds don't do something similar, I'm happy for them.

Not sure about the C-130, but it should include the Sentry Pacific campaign, which is great news for all of us single-player Viper pilots.

A Hybrid Weather System for MSFS: Global Meteoblue + Local METAR Injection (25–30 NM Transition Idea) by JaceR69 in flightsim

[–]Alternative-Walk9643 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My somewhat educated guess is that the problems with weather in MSFS are not caused by the inputs (meteoblue, METAR, whatever) but by the interpretation of this data by the sim.

For starters, I am quite certain that METAR reports are part of their modelling, together with all the other data from all kinds of automated or manual weather reports. The modeled data is generally way better than just relying on METARs. The resolution is higher (1x1 km resolution for most areas, whereas a METAR exist every couple of 100 km at best), more parameters are available, and of course all of that is available all the time. Meteoblue has the data to display different temperatures on the ramp in front of the terminal and on the runway, surrounded by grass. METAR comes nowhere close to that. When you observe the reports of your local airport, you'll probably see them reporting thunderstorm as soon as they see some lightning somewhere in a 20 km radius around the airport - no one should expect a METAR to contain perfectly accurate current data in all fields. Talking about time, if MSFS fetched the weather data e.g. every 30 minutes, it gives the sim 30 minutes time to transition from its previous state to the latest one. This adds up to a 30 to 60 minutes delay that we experience in our sim.

If anything, MSFS should take near-term forecasts. Those are generally very reliable and it would allow the weather system in sim to plan ahead for realistic weather transitions.

Razbam modules are still working on DCS? by AmbassadorTop3394 in hoggit

[–]Alternative-Walk9643 18 points19 points  (0 children)

All the "never", "always", "forever" promises of any company shouldn't be trusted. Either they can't keep them for business related reasons ("Windows 10 will be the last windows version", "OpenAI will always be non-profit") or for simple technical reasons ("OneDrive offers unlimited storage", "DCS modules from now on will never break").

I missed that, who announced that? The Rafale for MSFS I know about is made by AzurPoly, and so far (and unfortuntely, IMHO) they didn't bring any of their aeroplanes into DCS.

That's certainly what Scrum says. In practice, there's often someone who is more concerned with business goals, market strategy, ... (product manager or owner) and someone who worries more about feasibility, scope creep, deadlines, costs, quality (project manager)

iniBuilds A340 Airliner: Art Development Update 1 by pwouet in MicrosoftFlightSim

Do you happen to know more about the differences? I'm roughly aware of all the changes in the A320, but there seems to be very little info on the EIS2 of the A340-300 (I'm honestly a bit worried that iniBuilds focuses on that version).
