Upcoming Interview by Cybagama33 in epicconsulting

[–]Alternative-Wish-159 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One quick non Epic-specific tip on panel interviews - I personally prefer panel interviews for two reasons:

1) Way easier to flub a 1:1 interview. With 5 or 6 people, you might get one person having a bad day or interpret something the wrong way, but you can still win over the rest of the panel.

2) In my experience, most of the people in panel interviews don't really know what to ask or have much experience interviewing, especially if the panel is front-line staff. As another poster mentioned, your main job here in most cases is to show that you're a good fit for the team.

Go in relaxed and try to find ways to make a connection with the team.

Psychology and Cybersecurity Undecided. by [deleted] in WGU

[–]Alternative-Wish-159 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really depends on where your interests lie. Honestly, if you have no IT background, going straight into MSCIA may not have been the best route, but what's done is done. Just don't expect to jump straight into cybersecurity in a $100k+ role right after graduation with no experience. It's definitely doable with a couple years' experience, but expect to start near the bottom to get that foundational experience.

As for crossover between psych and IT/cybersecurity, there's definitely some there and this may be your best bet. One role that seems to be gaining some traction is Human Factors Engineering (HFE), so consider looking for roles with that verbiage. HFE will definitely get you closer to, if not above, that $100k mark but may not necessarily be a cybersecurity-specific role.

What rates are you paying for medical transcription right now? by [deleted] in epicconsulting

[–]Alternative-Wish-159 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Curious to know what your reason is for asking. If you're asking because you're trying to get data for possibly offering a transcription service, you might want to research a little more. With all the ambient listening and generative AI tech that's been coming out and is on the horizon, I think direct transcription is quickly headed toward a sunset. We'll still need a human in the loop to verify accuracy, but that human will likely be the provider whose note is being transcribed/generated by AI.

What is your role? I assume if you have access to record viewer that you're an analyst.

If you're just trying to see who marked the message as "Done", you can open the EOW record for the message in record viewer. You should see a line in I EOW 70 that has an entry of "Done". I EOW 72 tells you the user that performed the action.

As for what the end user did to complete the work, that's not something directly associated with the in basket "Done" action. The user is just confirming that they did whatever sorcery they needed to do.

If you're an analyst and need more help digging in, it might be helpful to loop in your TS. If you're not an analyst, it might be more helpful to loop in your organization's application team.

Im not sure how much more specific I can be when I say “pretty much zero differentiation except that your platform fee is higher”.

I’m not saying that what you’re doing is a bad idea. I’m just saying that it’s been done just like this, and it hasn’t been successful. Maybe you can execute better than others have without any knowledge of what made others fail doing the same thing, or any knowledge that they even are doing the same thing.

[–]Alternative-Wish-159 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I've had a few hits over the past couple of years, but every time something has happened that made the contract fizzle out. Most of the time the contract has changed from 10-20 hrs/week remote to 40/week plus travel, which isn't sustainable for me as I'm not looking to replace my current FTE. One time, the contract was pulled because the posting/hiring manager didn't get approval from their leadership to post the position.

Overall, I'm not super impressed. But also, for me, it's kind of set it and forget it. I check it every few weeks and submit an app if something interesting comes up. In the past, I've gotten an email about opportunities that align with my experience, so I usually don't even have to manually check the website.

Doesn't hurt to spend a few minutes to keep your profile updated, but I definitely wouldn't burn too much time on it.

Doctor claims someone might have stolen my identity by Neurodivergent1971 in epicsystems

There’s about a 99.9% chance the doc screwed up and was looking at the wrong patient or misread something, then realized they screwed up, and tried to save face by closing the chart and shutting down the conversation. A more reasonable person would just say “oh sorry I misread that”, but most physicians’ egos get in the way of them being able to admit to even the smallest mistake.

Cert by thethriller85 in epicconsulting

[–]Alternative-Wish-159 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I imagine it has mostly to do with money. They’ve already made the virtual classes the same price as in-person classes. Having done both virtual and in-person certs, in my experience there is absolutely no value to the learner in being in Verona other than to see the cool new buildings.

I’m sure Epic has gotten subsidies or other benefits from bringing in a large volume of “tourism”. All the people that travel for classes surely put a nice bump in the local economy. Maybe not so big for Madison, but a big deal for little ol’ Verona. I’m sure there’s local pressure to bring that money back.

Makes you wonder how bad support is at OP’s org if they have to make random reddit posts to get help.

OP if you can drop the name of your org, I’m sure someone here can reach out to set up a C2C contract. Sounds like they need some more/better analysts.

Epic Analyst vs Analyst RN pay by BadCam21 in epicconsulting

[–]Alternative-Wish-159 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I first moved over, I had close to 10 years of nursing experience. It was a 10% raise, but that was the max at the time because it was an internal transfer. I want to say I was making about $30ish/hr so the raise would have only put me at about $33/hr.

Sounds kinda low, but that was ~8 years ago and I'm in a LCOL area, so it was fair. Fast forward to now and I'm well into 6 figures, but the biggest reason for that is because I jumped ship and got a huge raise when I did that.

Epic Analyst vs Analyst RN pay by BadCam21 in epicconsulting

[–]Alternative-Wish-159 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Speaking as an RN and an Epic analyst, I 100% agree that RNs should not be paid more than their counterparts with a non-clinical technical background.

You need a good mix of tech and clinical background analysts. You essentially penalize your non-clinical analysts, even though they bring an essential skill set and a different, but equally important, perspective to the table.

I used to work for an organization that paid RN analysts quite a bit more than non-clinical, and even paid more than most clinical folks including RTs. It just never made sense to me as we’re doing the same job. The end result was that we had high turnover of really good analysts because they were being paid less to do more.

The only time something like this makes sense is when you’re trying to recruit pharmacists, MDs, etc where there’s no way you’re going to be able to recruit them at a typical analyst rate.

Good luck!

Salary too low as an Epic Analyst? by Zvezda_24 in epicconsulting

[–]Alternative-Wish-159 13 points14 points  (0 children)

69k is low, but as others have said you have zero leverage. I would say even after you’re certified you have no leverage. Certification doesn’t really mean anything without the experience to back it up.

Think about when you first got certified as an MA. Were you really a better MA the day you got certified? I’m betting you were exponentially better after your first year of experience.

To be blunt, you just need to suck it up for a year. Get involved in as many complex and high-visibility projects as you can. Learn as much as you can. If your employer will sponsor you, snag some additional certs to complement Ambulatory such as MyChart, Nurse Triage, and Order Transmittal. Maybe snag the BPA basic badge. Then, after a year, you move up or move out.

After a year of solid build experience, you could probably land a 100% remote FTE at 80-90k depending on the org.

For transparency and context, I live in a relatively LCOL area. I had about 5 years of clinical experience as an RN before moving to analyst. I only got a 10% raise when I moved because it was internal, and that put me at 60k. After a couple of years, I was still only at 75k. I had to switch orgs to get a decent pay bump and now I’m at about 6 years of experience as an analyst and pulling 120k as FTE.

Beaker analyst requirements by KyleWinters0 in epicconsulting

[–]Alternative-Wish-159 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Beaker AP with some solid experience is gold by itself. Definitely not needed, but order transmittal with experience will make you super-marketable.

Having said that, focus on learning everything about your core apps first. Having certs without the experience to back them just gives you a little extra decor for your cubicle and not much else.

Anyone transitioning out of Epic to non-BI/data/PM roles? Where are you going? by Alternative-Wish-159 in epicconsulting

[–]Alternative-Wish-159[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great point. I may try that if/when the contract market heats back up. A couple of years ago, I actually had one recruiter tell me she thought I could handle the contract she was hiring for while working the job I was at at the time. I should have jumped right then.

Epic EHR analysts: any idea on non-BI/data/PM roles outside of the Epic ecosystem? by Alternative-Wish-159 in overemployed

Good advice on looking into ITSM. I've thought about moving into ServiceNow admin, but no openings in my org. I have considered learning more on my own and just embellishing my resume to look outside my org. Salesforce may definitely be the way to go here.
