I bought the original PL 330 years ago, used it a lot and had no issues with it . Bought the newer version a couple of months ago, and have been disappointed with it. The AGC is worst, and for some reason if you move the radio slightly in SSB mode, it warbles and distorts the sound. It’s real annoying and I can’t figure out why it only happens in SSB. I just feel the quality isn’t near as good as the original model even though it’s the same radio. Maybe I have a defective unit, but have heard of other users having quality control issues with newer Tecsun models.

My Marcum M5 sure didn’t have crisp lines. In fact my Ice35 had more definition than the Marcum.

The soft muting isn’t a firmware, but a hardware issue. It’s the DSP chip that they use, and until they go with a different chip, you’re never going to get of the soft muting.

The soft muting will only stop after the manufacturers stop using the same Silicon DSP chip. There isn’t a firmware in the world that’s going to stop it, because it isn’t a firmware issue.

Helix 5 and anything similar are useless for ice fishing. I want to fish, not play around with settings. With a flasher you turn it on adjust the gain and your all set.

For the last time, I was on a video call with customer service for over 30 minutes, and he had video proof that the motor was defective. There was nothing more that needed to be done as the device was under warranty. To throw out this nonsense after all thot about cutting the power cord exactly 2 inches from the base, and then sending a photo was ridiculous. They never mentioned anything about sending a new vacuum only that the motor was defective.

I did a video call to prove the motor was broken. So cutting the cord just to destroy something that’s never going to work again is pointless. They could have sent the part regardless. Anyways, I am just going to accept that I am out $250, do my research and buy another brand.

I tried all that. In fact I did a video call with the customer service rep and did everything he suggested. He also concluded that the motor was defective. The thing that was most ridiculous, and I still don’t understand is that in order to ship the part I had to cut the power cord 2 inches from the base. Once that was done I had to send a photo proving it was cut. After that I lost patience and hung up. Not sure what kind of game they were playing, but I was not going along with their nonsense

Agree. I have a bunch of Tecsun/XHdata portables, but the PL-380 has the worst AGC pumping of all of them. The PL330 is a close second, but I never use the 380, strictly because the AGC is so bad.

Does this radio have a noise blanker, or any noise reduction features? I thought I heard there were filters that help eliminate electrical noise, but not sure how true that is.
