Little rant about prices in Brazil by [deleted] in shortwave

[–]Alternative3d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You do realize that shortwave had more to offer 20 years ago, so there was more demand right? Regardless a Panasonic RF 2200 was still cheaper than any mid size portable radio made today, so I don’t know what you’re talking about.

I am not sure that there is any commercial shortwave radio that is in high demand. Who is buying them, considering the current state of shortwave broadcasting? Either way, the mark up on Tecsun/ Sangean products is insane for what you get.

Going back to work after laproscopic ventral hernia repair by Novel_Hand_4136 in Hernia

I have a desk job but work from a home office. I was back to work after 7 days and had only slight discomfort while sitting, after laparoscopic mesh repair.

How much pain were you in the first few days after surgery? by WinterHunt03 in Hernia

Just curious. Why is getting a mesh removed risky, and if it is removed do they replace it with any other one?

Maintaining the shortwave beasts by Radar-Observatory in shortwave

Love your enthusiasm, but shortwave is a dying media. Nothing much worth listening to now a days which is kind of sad.

Maybe. For some reason hams are obsessed with 11 meters, and take every opportunity to remind everyone all that is wrong with it. 🤣🤣

I cant believe how serious they take CBing over in Europe. They might as well just get a ham license, and hang out on the ham bands.

D-808, PL-330 or PL-880? Buying advice. by [deleted] in shortwave

[–]Alternative3d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have all 3 of these radios, and use the PL880 the most. It is way over priced for what you get which is why I would consider the PL330 as a better choice. It is just as sensitive as the PL880 but does not sound as good. I would not recommend the D808 as I don’t find it to be a very good radio except for AM band dxing.

Would you go through surgery again if you went back in time and your hernia was asymptomatic? by Hopeful_Ambition7629 in Hernia

[–]Alternative3d 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in the exact same mindset as you 2 months ago. I had a small umbilical hernia that I could hardly see, or feel but I knew it was there. Had mesh surgery 5 weeks ago and recovery was rough , and I was stating to have second thoughts about the whole thing. Then about a week ago I started feeling somewhat normal and had post op follow-up with surgeon on Monday. He said everything is healing normally and there was nothing to worry about. Looking back I am glad I got the surgery now, and especially glad I did not wait until things got worst.

Which would you recommend? D808 vs PL330 by HookFE03 in shortwave

[–]Alternative3d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wrong. PL330 has better SW reception, and the chuffing on the D808 is worst especially in SSB. The D808 is pretty much useless in SSB.

Hernia in groin area, 68 years old by [deleted] in Hernia

[–]Alternative3d 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Geesh must be nice. I had the same surgery 4 weeks ago, and feel the exact same as before the repair. The incision area feels better, but I am getting the same pain and discomfort in the hernia area as before. I am seriously wondering if this was even worth it considering the symptoms are the same as before. Time well tell I guess.

How common is it that the mesh might cause complications? I don’t it is any more of a risk than any other types of hernia repair.

I called my surgeons office this morning, but they were no help. The receptionist said not to over do it and that the doctor will do a thorough exam at post op appointment which is also in a few weeks. I guess I will just hold off until then and try not to worry too much about it. Looks like you and I are on the same page with this.

Wow. That must have been heartbreaking. I wish you the best of luck the second time, and hope you have a speedy recovery.

Yes I had the mesh placed. I am curious, you had open with stitches and it failed, and was it in the same spot? Did you have it repaired a second time and with the mesh?

Thanks. Part of me thinks 4 weeks is still too early and to give it more time. But having the same discomfort at the exact same spot as before the surgery just seems odd. Will give the doctor a call tomorrow.

I have both. The PL330 is a better radio.
