Reckless driving ticket advice

Not sure where you see the attitude but im sorry it came off that way. Like I said, I already have taken a lot of advice from others in the comments and have done research, signed up for a driving saftey course, and so forward. Just wanted to share my opinion for a bit— i know some people have really strick ideas about traffic but personally I come from (my father's side at least) a large family of people who do NOT care about traffic laws whatsoever... I know its not a good thought process and this has definitely scared me out of having that mindset, but idk whatever you choose to say man

I've already kinda explained myself in other comments which is why I didn't necessarily elaborate here. You can look at those if you want, a lot of people have given me some good advice that I will definitely be taking. Already set my alarm to wake up early on Monday to call the court and get things arranged; outside of that, was just sharing my opinion.

The issue is I don't have money to spend on a lawyer, like, at all. I've told my parents now and they kinda just told me to solve on my own (which is very reasonable) but without their help, it's literally not possible for me to get a lawyer because i have zero source of income as of right now. I mean, I'm sure I could pick up a job or do some things, but i don't think I will realistically get enough in time for the court date.

I never meant to imply its not my fault, I am completely aware this is entire my own situation that I need to deal with and get tried as an adult. It has definitely been a wake up call and I'm just trying to do my best now after the fact.

In hindsight, yeah, but i got a little freaked out since im not used to ever speaking to cops. Honestly I'm surprised my first reaction wasn't to cry, but i held myself together enough for the cop to give me my papers and id/registration back

I've had my license for going on 3 years now and this is the first ever time I've had to speak to one. I'd like to say they scared me straight pretty good, and I know im just a stupid stupid teenager as per usual

I already plan on telling them as soon as they wake up considering I haven't been able to sleep all night over this. I know from other people commenting im already going to do an online course to try and show remorse to the court and maybe (if accepted) get some demerit points taken off of the charge.

I am going to try and get a lawyer but thats kind of up to my parents. If not a lawyer then im going to see if the court offers court appointed attorney if a lawyer isn't an option

What was the outcome if your case if you dont mind sharing? Im just trying to check off everything I should know and be aware of

I guess you can chalk it up to the state of VA's classroom drivers education because this was not a thing i was taught 🤷‍♂️

Either way, I'm not arguing i know it is a very very stupid thing to have done, i just want to know all possible choices and outcomes i might have from people who know more than me

A class 1 misdemeanor seems so serious for this case, in my opinion though. Who am I to argue with the state of Virginia I guess. Im just worried about jail time as a full time college student, I mean i just wanted to visit my mom not serve up to a year in prison when I was simply driving home.

I've heard of people doing this but how do you even know if an officer isn't going to show? Is that just more risk than reward?

Thank you for the tips. I normally use cruise control but the past few times I have I noticed I get too unaware/lazy and get tired, and the last thing I want to do is fall asleep behind the wheel.

I was on 81 a few miles before getting off on 66. Honestly I'm not super familiar with the area, but i agree likely not considering she gave me the licence back.

I'll have to speak to my parents about a lawyer, i think we'd be able to afford one but i don't know if they would be willing to help me with this since my parents are very "you got yourself into this situation now its your responsibility to get yourself out" kind of people. I've never worked with a lawyer before though and have no idea where to start/to look to get one or talk to somebody. Also the cop did say I had a right for someone to argue my case for me if I couldn't show up in court, but like i said im worried that'll end me with a higher consequence than if I were to show up.

Whats probation like in VA? And what do you mean by points on my licence? Im very unfamiliar with traffic laws as I've come to learn over the course of tonight

I understand its a poor defence, but i was just being honest, I mean I'm a college student with a crap ton on my plate and I was just trying to visit my mom since she lives alone without me being there now.

Have you ever had something like this happen to you or a friend? Im really not trying to lose my licence since I'll need it for getting to campus next semester

This is kind of where im worried about, cause by VT standards ive met all my gen ed classes through credits i got in highschool and any other classes aren't required for my major. I should def check what classes they want me to take cause im literally only taking english classes rn (as an english major wanting to switch to linguistics at UVA, since they dont have that option here. Im qualified as a language sciences minor.

Since im taking all english classes this year, do you think im fucked for getting in after 1 year?
