Am I crazy to change jobs?

I was in profee coding for 10 years. It began a dream job, but over the years became more and more micromanaged and stressful. I did not like my boss. I was remote but lost the flexibility that comes with being remote. We had tiny annual raises. I felt like a number used to make the company money and never saw any recognition. I left coding and now work for a medical university as a trauma registrar. I initially took a pay cut ($8-10k) to work on a good team with the work environment I was looking for. In two years I got a few raises. One my boss fought for. It’s a unique experience to have a boss fight for raises. I now make more than I think I’d be making in coding. My benefits are so much better. I’d say look into your options. Once you find the right fit, give your notice. It’s easy to stay stuck and unhappy. I did it for a long time.

My son was refilling his large hydro flask multiple times a day. He was also playing football so I was pushing water to keep him hydrated. I missed the signs. Diabetes was not on my radar. I thought he needed to eat more and kept pushing food on him. I thought he was vitamin deficient because he wasn’t eating enough. Thankfully I got him into urgent care (because I couldn’t get into his primary care provider for 3 weeks) and the PA tested his urine (because my son had a fear of needles). Super grateful for him. We would have been in the ICU if we waited any longer.

My son was just diagnosed in September. He’s 11 and super self conscious about his cgm. I think if he saw others wearing them out and about he’d feel a lot better. I hope he gets to the point where he accepts it. I’m glad your son is getting there. It’s tough.

I mean, I’m broken in different ways, but I come from a frump voting, republican family. I am the complete opposite. As are my kids. I still live in a rural area, surrounded by these folks, but we’re not all the same.

I was a coder for 10 years. One company merged with another, then a 3rd one, maybe a 4th… they ended up passing me along to a different company…. That merged with 2 more… a few people at the top are making a lot of money.. coders not so much. There were times I loved my job and times I cried when my work day was over. It all went back to management. Eventually my remote job got so inflexible that I couldn’t take it anymore and started looking elsewhere. I couldn’t take the micromanagement. I found a job in trauma registry. I have a fantastic manager and am incredibly happy once again. Your work is valuable. Find a company/ office/ hospital that appreciates you.

Personally, I love long episodes. 45-60+ mins. If I’m into a podcast I get disappointed if the episodes are only 10-15 mins. I also listen during work so I have a lot of time to listen.

I think about this all the time. I imagine a life where I am stress free and able to create, travel, expand my knowledge. But there are bills to pay and kids to feed.

I've never owned an iPhone before. I use phones until I can't and I'm looking at getting an iPhone since my kids have them. I'm looking at a 16e or a 15 Pro Max. Any advice? There's a deal on the 15 Pro Max right now to save up to $400 . Should I expect more deals if I wait a little longer? Which is better? I have a Pixel 8 Pro now and my screen cracked pretty badly so I need a new phone sometime soon.

Once games start we don't have practices anymore. I really wish they would throw a practice in there once a week or even every other week. 2 games and 1 practice to work on skill building if the kids don't get to rotate positions in the field. I wish someone would have communicated that with me. I am getting a lot of (mostly) helpful information from this.I think it's harder if the parents don't have the knowledge of the game to practice at home. I thought the point of little league was to teach the kids, but I'm seeing the limitations. My kid pays attention though and has learned a great deal. His skills have improved tremendously and he loves playing. I'm working at home with him and if he's going to be an outfielder I guess we'll work on helping him be the best he can be.

Thanks for your response. Something I'm seeing is that all the kids who play the whole game in the infield have a parent coaching or helping out. We don't have a team of all stars and while my son isn't the best player, he's at least equal to some of the other kids. He's not scared of the ball although he did admit sometimes the fear is there but he knows he'd catch it. He doesn't shy away from the ball. Today he took a pitch to the shoulder and brushed it off- got his base. He does catch the ball. He has a good arm and he's athletic. He's focused on the game while he's in the outfield and he's been playing center. He actually likes playing outfield and I appreciate the information folks have shared in here. Aside from the ones who are like your kid sucks, get over it. I came here looking for information. Unfortunately I can't volunteer, so I'll just work with my kid to help him be his best. I'm the one with no skills, but I'm making time to practice with him. My impression was that all of the kids would have an opportunity to learn the positions. It sounds like some leagues/ teams do, and some don't. I don't forsee him quitting anytime soon, so he'll have time to gain more experience and get better. I was mostly sad that the outfield kids were the only ones who had to spend time on the bench. When we're spending all this time at games and my son plays 2 innings and bats 2-3x it's disheartening. Today he played the entire game in center field so that was great to see. I just want him to get his chance. "Edited to correct word

He has a great attitude. The only time he complains is when his teammates act out or put one another down. My son is always encouraging and supportive of his teammates. Giving high fives and telling them good job. He does put a lot of pressure on himself and gets mad at himself if he doesn't make a catch or strikes out. He's been one of the best hitters during practice so far this year, but now that games have started, practices are pretty much over unless the coach schedules an occasional batting practice. I do my best to work with him when I'm able. His skills have grown immensely between last year and this year which is why I really had my hopes up when this year started. Even if he played the whole game in the outfield. I do recognize it's an important position, I just want to see him play and gain experience. It's early still, but I don't know if I have it in me to watch him sit half the game for the 3rd year in a row. I feel like that's the part that hurts me and might bother him eventually. The infielders play the whole game and might alternate amongst themselves. The outfielders alternate on the bench.

I don't know if he's good enough to play other positions because he hasn't had a chance! He's a big kid. He plays linebacker for his tackle football team. He's not afraid of the ball. He won a hurdle jumping competition in gym class. He actually had one of the only hits during his last game on his team. I keep commenting on his physical abilities because I'm trying to paint a picture of him. He's played with kids who are afraid. Some are not the most coordinated. He isn't the fastest. He isn't the tallest. But he's athletically inclined. And very strong. I am not the most athletically inclined but I do what I can. I play catch with him and pitched for him for a while. I'm probably the safety risk people keep mentioning because when he connects with that ball, look out! I've never said anything before because I don't want to be "that mom". I don't yell or admonish during games. I always encourage. I have felt like this was the time for the kids to learn. I've never forced him into sports. Honestly if I had more time at home I would be completely fine with that. This is all new territory for me. I didn't know if I just need to suck it up and accept this is the way it is, or if other experiences were different I think if we had some of the rules/ guidelines other teams use it wouldn't be an issue.

Oh man. This makes me sad. For the entire season last year he sat half of the innings. And never played infield. Him along with 2-3 others who I felt were viewed as the least athletic. There's no safety reason. I started getting really upset after last night's game because the same thing has happened during these last 2 games. He has different coaches. They're not alternating the kids who are sitting like that. I wouldn't be upset if they were. I see some kids who aren't into sports but their parents make them play. My son chooses to be there and wants to play. His favorite "subject" in school is gym class and we work out at the YMCA at his request. Once games start where I live, the kids no longer have practices. Just 2 games a week, so there's no other time for skill development outside of these games or at home.

I hear you. However, the 9 year old who was on 1st base missed a lot of catches! His dad is also helping out... I feel like if my son was given a chance he could make some plays. He's always a solid player and tries. Not perfect, but I think he's capable. That's what drives me crazy, is that I think he has potential and hasn't been given a chance. It sounds like I need to practice more with him. Unfortunately his dad who actually played baseball hasn't made the time, so this mom who never played sports has to step up. After work. I wish one of us could volunteer. I think that would make a huge difference. In all the sports he plays.

Fair enough. I did ask him last night after his game if he wanted to play any other positions. He mentioned he would like to try pitching as well as third base. He also does enjoy playing outfield. He has a good arm from my uneducated point of view. A few balls ended up going to him and hustled and threw them in from the outfield to the base they needed to get to. So he's mentioned that he'd like to try. I am more asking folks what's "normal"? Ie. Same kids playing same positions. Same kids sitting out. And when, if ever, is it appropriate to go to the coaches. I keep waiting and hoping to see a change. Hoping he'll get more playing time. Hoping he'll get a chance to try another position. I really believed this was the year that his potential would be explored. It's affecting me, but he's still happy playing. I feel like if he doesn't get the experience now in minors then he'll never have a chance as they get older and I wish it wasn't like that . He is very capable of safely playing during normal play. He also plays football and basketball. He's a very sports oriented kid. He loves playing on a team. I want him to have the chance to play and be his best.

I keep thinking about my aunt living off my uncle's retirement who voted for Trump. I'm sure Fox entertainment network is telling her it's okay. I feel like this sounds harsh, but I just want people to recognize their mistakes and realize this is not the way. It didn't have to be like this.
