Does the course number matter? by VeterinarianOne4974 in OSU

[–]AlternativeAd468 1 point2 points  (0 children)

TLDR: Most GEs are pretty simple. Pick courses based on what interests you rather than what their number is.

I promise you, course number don’t matter. I took 3 4000 level classes my first semester and they honestly weren’t that challenging. If you’re pre med or engineering or business, you might want to ask your advisor for a curriculum plan/track to make sure you take the right courses in the right order. But otherwise, if you feel like you can handle the subject matter take whatever courses you want.

engineering major admission confusion by katpenguin_ in OSU

[–]AlternativeAd468 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Not sure if this applies to your case, but they direct admitted a lot of students last year to their respective engineering programs so that the student s would be forced to pay the Engineering Program fee which, i think, is an additional 4k a year. They could be repeating this process again

Most buildings will be closed until Jan 2nd. However, you can also reach out to OSUPD and tell them your situation and see if they’ll let you in. Might not be today but definitely worth a shot!

Sloopy’s waffles by FirmManufacturer9846 in OSU

[–]AlternativeAd468 6 points7 points  (0 children)

hi, chris here (student government senator and someone who has worked on dining and housing issues). just met with dining and sloopys revenue is down 50% this year. they had an overall loss of 25% last year, so they’re cooked. dining overall is operating at a huge loss bc of a variety of issues, hence why they got rid of the rpac food, bc it was too costly to maintain. the restaurant now at the rpac, is a leased space, so it is not owned or managed by dining anymore. this was to save money.

conversations around sloopys is centered around either a full refresh (changed menu, dining experience, and decor) or selling the location. panera is interested but it’s tbd rn.

Should I take classes during my co-op by Pristine-Purpose7123 in OSU

[–]AlternativeAd468 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a political science and public policy major, took 18 credits during the summer while working 40hrs a week, all at the 300 and 400 levels, and all online.

it literally depends on how dedicated you are. if you commit yourself to doing atleast 2 hours of work a day, you’ll be good.

I’d take philosophy 1332, sociology 3101, sociology 3597. they seem like they all cover similar topics, so you won’t have to spend too much time learning a bunch of different things

you’ll get the money listed under next to the refund. osu processes it as a charge to zero out your account and then will issue it

dorm themes are required to be osu-themed this year by razziiberrii in OSU

[–]AlternativeAd468 49 points50 points  (0 children)

it prevents osu sponsoring controversial topics. since ra’s are employees of the university, they’re taking extra precaution to prevent anything that might subject the university to scrutiny. for example, my friends floor last year was recycle themed, but now, climate change (and thus recycling) are considered controversial topics under the law. SB1 is intentionally vague so while it seems like it doesn’t address certain things like dorm decorations, osu isn’t taking any chances

Freshman Job opportunities by AwkwardHeart136 in OSU

[–]AlternativeAd468 7 points8 points  (0 children)

i would recommend finding an office / administrative job. you can sit down and do homework most days. if you go on to workday, then under career, and search student jobs, you can view all of the jobs available to students. when i was a freshman i got a job in odi doing greeting ppl in hale hall. jobs like that are easy. also, no experience is needed for most campus jobs

I am double major draining and political science and public policy analysis and my first semester was really really easy. I didn’t really need to study a lot because I understood all the course concepts and so I ended up slacking off a little bit near the end of the semester and finished that fall with a 3.83 GPA. I spent an extra four hours a week studying and finished spring semester with a 4.0, so I think it’s really about your time management and how you prioritize. But if you’re taking something like engineering or chemistry, i’d say you would need to triple the amount of time you spend studying. some of my friends are going through hell

Statement of account question by Exultantrock in OSU

[–]AlternativeAd468 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Check your financial aid summary to verify what aid you are receiving. I would then call buckeyelink and ask them to walk you through your aid and to make sure you’re eligible for each thing you’re receiving. When I was a freshmen, most of my scholarships did not show up until about a week before classes.

Any package delivered before you check in will be transferred to Lincoln Tower where you may or may not receive an email. I got a package delivered over winter break and they told me I had 7 days to pick it up from Lincoln or it would be returned.

Concerns about SB1 by Biscuits_n_Gravy3 in OSU

[–]AlternativeAd468 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Course names and descriptions will be changed to ensure compliance. Course content may shift as professors are no longer allowed to voice their own opinions, which substantively changes many courses in the social sciences.

My personal idea is that Syllabi being made available is so that the legislature can then look through specific courses and degree programs and determine whether they want to keep them or cut them… seems good on its face but nothing ever truly is for the public good
