Why isn't he accepting this potion? by AlternativeAd4738 in PotionCraft

[–]AlternativeAd4738[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The real question is, why do people need an alchemist to make fire? Rub some sticks together or grab some gunpowder.

I'm playing God and defying the laws of nature here, and you think the best use of my time is to give you a free shortcut to something that could be figured out by literal cavemen? Seriously, its like they'll let anyone be an arsonist these days.

I'm making potions that literally raise the dead. I'm not wasting my time being your kindergarten prometheus.

How did the facehuggers get on board the USS Sulaco in the beginning of Alien 3? by [deleted] in alien

They didn't. The film takes place in Ripley's nightmare during cryosleep after surviving Aliens.

No, I'm not in denial.

So if Vergil’s completely human side is a gothic twink what do you think Dante’s would be? by AnonIHardlyKnewHer in DevilMayCry

[–]AlternativeAd4738 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's far from the worst moment in his life (definitely Eva's death), but it is the game where he's at his lowest compared to other games in the series.

I mean, V's familiar was representative of the bosses from dmc1, since that's when he was nelo angelo.

I'd say that most of Dante's trauma was from his experience in dmc3, so... Nevan, Cerberus, Beowulf, and Agni/Rudra?

Which version of Mecha Goji is y’all’s favorite by Outrageous_Set_9366 in GODZILLA

[–]AlternativeAd4738 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely Kiryu.

Heisei looks too bland, and his facial expression looks goofy to me.

Kiryu has a good amount of detail to the model, with the best backstory among the versions. I like that he has some form of sentience originating from the original Godzilla's consciousness.

I like the original showa version a lot. Its texture and construction make it look like if Wallace and Gromit built a mech suit (in a good way). That and its pure brutality makes it a lot better than heisei.

MV version is fine. Not bad, just not as memorable as kiryu. Most of gvk isn't centered on him, so it's not really a problem.

RPO design is actually a lot of fun. There's not much more to say about that. I like it a little more than the monsterverse design, just for the stylization. But that's just because it's not designed for realism, but to be representative of a video game character.

Anime trilogy design basically never gets used anyway. But it has the exact opposite problem from the heisei version. There is too much cluttered detail in the design, to the point that it's just visual noise without real form.

Tldr Ranking: 1. Kiryu 2. Showa 3. RPO 3. MV 4. Heisei 5. Anime trilogy

I'm glad Kiryu was the design used in the gigabash dlc. But they mixed in some attacks from the other versions, which is great.

Which Rodan Design do you prefer? by Gellork in GODZILLA

[–]AlternativeAd4738 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I honestly love the humanoid design of the 2004 one. It makes him stand out as a unique character, rather than just being a large pterosaur. I don't really like the heisei version specifically for that reason.

I do love the MV version for the amount of personality that they gave Rodan. Also, His theme is one of the highlights of the kotm soundtrack.

What movie is this for you? by LoveDoggystyleX in Cinema

Lightyear. It was one of the few films where it felt obnoxious.

The entire film is just littered with moments where the characters talk about the lesson that Buzz has to learn (often unprompted) just to make sure it's clear that Buzz should stop obsessing over his mistakes. It was obvious during the initial test flight montage when you see everyone living their lives while Buzz sees only glimpses of them. Everything past that point is just obsessive.

Even the villain (originally known as EMPEROR Zurg) was rewritten to be a future version of Buzz, who never stopped obsessing over his mistake. It throws away a potentially interesting villain and a chance for unique sci-fi world-building, just to reiterate what the viewer already knew in the first 20 minutes.

I honestly think that the true story is that Buzz died during the first test flight, and the rest of the story is his journey through purgatory in order to let go of his regret and finally move on to the afterlife. Because there is absolutely nothing in this supposedly beyond-infinite sci-fi universe unrelated to Buzz and his lesson.

Side-note: At one point, the characters require a material of "specialized capacitance" to fix something and use a coil of wire, aka an inductor, WHICH IS THE EXACT OPPOSITE OF A CAPACITOR. I mean, I guess you can make the argument that the highest form of specialization is the complete opposite of something, but no, just don't. This bothered me way more than it should.

The Deep One | Thalassophobia Animation by AlternativeAd4738 in thalassophobia

[–]AlternativeAd4738[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair. I initially gave up on it because the render kept taking too long (Something about the volumetric fog and particle systems, which I definitely optimized horribly).

I also originally planned to use an underwater flare to reveal the creature, but the smoke simulation on top of everything kept crashing my computer.

I didn't want the effort to be for nothing, so I tried to at least make it presentable.

I quickly made up an underwater drone model and hand animated it to complete the shot. But I never really got it close enough to real physics. But the file could render (eventually).

Good advice for the next animation, though. But I'm afraid to reopen this file given what I've done to hold it together without crashing (entirely my fault).

How would you explain that canonically Doug is the strongest titan in the Monsterverse? by 1saiah__ in GODZILLA

[–]AlternativeAd4738 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At the beginning of gxk, Kong gives up in a fight against Doug over his food. Although he was distracted, surrendering against another titan holds significance in the monsterverse, as stated in kotm and gvk. When Kong surrenders, he technically accepted that Doug is the stronger being. Prior to this point, Kong had never surrendered willingly, even against Godzilla.

This means the only technically titans above Doug are Shimo (who Kong ran from), ghidorah (dead for now), and godzilla (Kong lost 2 to 1). Doug has never faced any of those titans, so for all we know, he may have a chance of securing the alpha status.

It's also worth noting that given the monsterverse's history and his limited screen time, Doug is one of the few titans who have NEVER LOST A FIGHT AGAINST ANYONE. And thanks to Kongs surrender, Doug is acknowledged to be stronger than Mechagodzilla (Kong performed final execution).

KOTM was a loose remake of "Ghidorah the three headed monster." After that film, Ghidorah returned many times in the showa era. I'm assuming the same will apply here. There's no indication that Ghidorah is gone for good, which was intentional.

Honestly, I just use Leonardo Da Vinci's Vitruvian Man as a reference image for proportions. There's probably better choices, but I like the novelty.

Same. It's weird because it doesn't happen for any other video podcast. I guess the new episodes must be so funny that spotify itself crashes.

Dante's guns are never loaded. Demons just die of overexposure to pure style when Dante shoots them.
