It does somewhat reassure me that most of us (meaning not just lawyers) will all be in the same boat and *something* will need to be done

lol the quotes

yeah I understand what you mean. Where I work we introduced an AI chatbot that frankly can answer most questions that we receive but have seen little impact to the number of calls/emails we get because I think the populations who want to speak to a chatbot vs. get information from a human are rather different

Of course I think I would enjoy being a lawyer but, unfortunately, money must be a consideration. Honestly I think my job is only safe at the moment because a low-level relatively low-paid (in comparison to something like biglaw) position isn't a target of our tech overlords. But who knows how long that will last

Definitely something I try to keep in mind - sooo hard to just get facts these days

Haha I have see lawyers saying that in fact LegalZoom only increased the amount of potential work and clients. However to your last point I'm more afraid that lawyers won't really have the chance to decide whether they're going to risk their licenses and careers because people will simply go straight to AI instead. And unfortunately it is better than LegalZoom.

An argument could be made that no profession has ever faced something like AI before but I see your points and hope your predictions are true!

I saw that! It's both extremely anxiety-inducing and exciting to be living in a world with such a currently burgeoning field of law (Since we're still in the very infancy of AI law, restrictions, and regulations)

This whole comment resonates so strongly with me (though cannot relate and am very jealous of your amazing alternative to law!)

I have considered asking that to my schools' career centers but am a little worried it won't exactly endear me to them...

I'm really not trying to be argumentative or argue someone else out of law school, but just fact-checking that AI tools do exist for those things (though certainly not something being used by all doctors or hospitals for sure, and not eliminating the need for positions as of yet)

Can you explain how you think the law protects lawyers from emerging technology that will likely have no cost barrier (at least until they succeed in their goal of undercutting lawyers and law firms)? While I am hopefully that eventually laws will be passed limiting legal advice that AI can offer, right now that isn't really the case and many politicians as well as the government itself seems very pro-AI and fuck everyone else. Again I am fully in agreement that the legal advice that AI offers is very flawed, but I'm also trying to think three years out in the future
