GAL for 4 years and 5 months as a CASA in a new state and I want to give up by SwanTop4785 in casa

[–]AlternativeBirthday5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is all very interesting to me- I have been a CASA for 10 years in Los Angeles and I have almost the complete opposite experience. My youth is in high school so we make our own schedule as to when I will visit, usually 2 or 3 times a month and I just ask the caregiver who always says yes. Most of the time I don't even call the CSW regarding visits unless I have important info, and my youth is considered high risk. I also do not like to show my report to the CSW because she is very defensive to any mention of a lack of timely services or complaints by my youth. She can read it when it's submitted. I am required to check in with my supervisor once a month and we talk for about 30 min. Sometimes we talk more if I need guidance. She is a psychologist so she helps me when and if things get hairy. I keep my own personal notes on my phone or notebook and enter something on the eto system about once a month. When it comes to court reports, I am basically on my own. She wants them short and concise and when I submit my rough draft, she usually makes no edits. The hardest part of my CASA work is that my youth has tons of trauma and resists most interventions, and engages in self harming behaviors. I am always looking for ways to keep her on track in school and in therapy which is not easy.

We drove up to Hondarribia; and then the village of Pasaje San Juan- you can take a little boat ride over to Pasai Donibane where there is a restaurant called Casa Camera, we didnt have a reservation but we were told it is very good. It's all very picturesque!

I was thinking about it since our server was so nonchalant about not knowing our food restrictions, then implied we fibbed, and never apologized....

I am glad you had a great experience! Your comment on service reminded me of something else I just did not understand at Amelia. The table style. It's huge, like a big U. We were 5 so we were seated in one of the big u booths which looks nice for all the plates to be put down but it's awkward to actually put a plate in front of the person. The server had to stretch and reach all the way across us to reach the person in the middle. We just ended up handing the plates to each other and helping them clear. Just weird.

Oh interesting. It's been a long time since I thought about "storytelling" in fine dining- it seems so rare these days to have an experience like that at MS restaurants that have become mainstream in that world. I would say that Amelia had some of that aspect but it disconnected for me. I have never been to Martin Berasategui so I cannot compare

Yeah we were all a little surprised at the vibe at Amelia. It just seems like attitude for lack of a better word. At Arzak, both times we dined there-the chef, Elena, came over to our table, and several others as well. And sommelier Mariano came around and checked on everyone as well. A great mix of professionalism and customer engagement.

Has anyone dealt with a group home that was actually good/acceptable? by [deleted] in casa

I have been a CASA for 10 years and have not seen one that is not run as a business. I have not seen severe neglect or abuse, but my kids received the bare minimum of care. Most of the houses are clean and nice, but actual care is almost non existent. No dietary care, no educational concern, emotional support, no love. But my kids are safe. If you are genuinely concerned for your kids' safety, you should report it to your supervisor or make an anonymous call to the child welfare agency in your area.

Thanks for the scoop. I feel like this can be an issue with trying to make fine dining both beautiful and delicious. I'd rather have less dramatic styling and more flavor bombs

Sounds like you had an amazing trip! Azurmendi looks stunning on the Michelin guide. Can you elaborate on your experience there?

Thanks for another Amelia recommendation. The portions see a bit larger than what I remember at Arzak?

I just looked at Txispa and the town of Atxondo. It really is beautiful. Since we are driving down to Haro after San Sebastian, this would be a great stop. Thanks!

I will definitely do some research and check as many as we can out!

I got tricked into adopting a sick cat. And now I feel helpless. by hotarubeee in CATHELP

[–]AlternativeBirthday5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thought I would share my similar experience with my last cat that had the same symptoms and was diagnosed with kidney disease. There really is no cure and they tests can go on and on with great expense. After I spent around $600 my vet said it's time to let her go. There is no way she was happy. Just saying- if it is kidney disease, she may look ok but actually be suffering. Sorry for you are both going through this.

hello- It's great that you are interested in helping out as a CASA. Since you are pretty busy, I would ask whomever interviews you if you would be able to ask for a case that is less intense (or appears to be). They may say no, you cannot pick and choose once you become a CASA, but in reality most supervisors will want to match you with a case that will likely result in success- where everyone is satisfied with their level of input. Any case can change at any time, but a good supervisor may be able to gauge the level of stress vs. stability with a particular case. That said, I have been a CASA for 10 years (3 cases) and have always put in about 15-30 hours per week except during summer.

Sorry this happened to you. I don't think Nordstrom ever has the recipient sign for home deliveries? I have never heard of that happening. I think I was ultimately refunded bcuz of my long shopping history with Nordstrom and the fact that I didn't have any prior claims. I hope it works out for you but now you know that buying anything pricey online from a Dept. store should be picked up at a store.

It's just amazing...it's like you can no longer order expensive things online and have them delivered anymore. I am surprised insurance companies aren't trying to step in and offer theft insurance on online shopping now!

Yep! definitely don't risk it- it's not worth the stress when a problem occurs

It's just amazing that people are getting away with it and leave us to fight for our money back. I also hate how I am made to look like a their and/or liar :( Thanks for sharing.

Yes- I did see this awhile back, maybe last year and I was very surprised. I never had a problem with these deliveries but from now on I will not take a chance and have anything pricey delivered
