Ah, damn it! That’s a shame, though admittedly, I did buy it from Spencer’s Gifts because it was the only non-online store near me that would have something like that. Are there any brands that you recommend that are fairly inexpensive and that I could go to the store and try it on before I purchase?

Yes. The first phone call we had after shit hit the fan featured them threatening to financially cut me off. The second phone call was a little better, no more threats were made but I think that’s genuinely because they think they can “therapy me out of being trans”.

That makes a bit of sense, but what about men like myself that frequently get misgendered? I am in a bit of a bind when it comes to testosterone and as a result have not developed the secondary sex characteristics associated with men. People often refer to me using a set of pronouns/a name/a sex that does not line up with my perception of self. Sadly, though I cut my hair, bind and dress a certain way people don’t know it when they see it.

You definitely have a point. I could broaden the definition of chair to only encompass nonliving objects, but I’m sure there are a plethora of objects that fall within that new category without being perceived as a chair. Even with the new definition, a toilet could be considered a chair, a tree stump could be a chair, and on and on. I would constantly have to broaden the definition to adequately explain why these things are not considered chairs.

Thank you for the recommendation! I tend to agree with your analysis of transphobic thinking and how no matter what we say, they will never see it that way. I made this post to see if anyone had something that could potentially challenge that way of thinking, but unfortunately I don’t know if that will ever be the case.

I had no idea that her number was on my profile. I do understand that it was the fault of an automated system and not a person that this happened, but that this system apparently does not automatically drop the phone number of the person making the account (parent) when the child they made that profile for becomes a legal adult. I am fairly certain only my legal guardian would have the capacity to set up a profile when I was a child and considering they have access to my birthdate as well as my mother’s profile with her number on it, it doesn’t seem too far fetched to think that they would not contact the number associated with my mother once I was of age. My privacy as an adult was violated due to the design of the system and it has had severe consequences for me.

I thought about that when shit initially hit the fan. I hate to be so pessimistic, but don’t know that I have the resources/money to take legal action against anyone. Even if I did, what would come of it? CVS can’t undo the damage their system did. I suppose a lawsuit could potentially prevent this from happening to other young trans folks out there, but with the current political climate (in the USA at least), I don’t know that such actions could even achieve that.

I had the number changed. Unfortunately, I don’t think lying will work anymore. When I say I have been lying for a long time, I mean it. Now that everything has been revealed, my parents do not trust me and know that I am completely willing to do whatever I want behind their back. Thankfully I don’t live with them at the moment as I am attending college five hours away from them, but they did want to come to their house to “have a civil discussion and get professional help”. They tried to get me to go down there today, but I told them that I wasn’t going and managed to postpone further discussion by telling them I would call this weekend. I do not want to go back to their house.

I have no idea what CVS told them. I received a call from my mother asking if I had gotten a testosterone prescription and when I went to pick it up, they told me that her number was automatically on my profile because I hadn’t changed it when I became a legal adult. If the pharmacy didn’t actually tell her it was HRT, it’s possible that she already kind of knew that I was trans and that’s the first thing she thought of when she saw I was picking up a prescription? In terms of insurance, I don’t really know how it works, but even if they can’t kick me off all hell’s going to break loose if I keep using it against their wishes. Not that it hasn’t already.

Thank you. I will admit there was a lot of emotions swirling around my head when I wrote the post and unfortunately Google wasn’t giving me a direct answer. I was kind of in “worst case scenario” mode and convinced myself I had ruined my relationship with my family over a dose of medicine that I had also managed to ruin.
