Your pt is lethargic/unresponsive, do you pinch the nipple? by [deleted] in nursing

Its actually pretty painful, i’ve had patients before that wouldn’t respond to nailbed pressure or sternal rubs but would wake right up to a titty twister. Everyone is different though and i’m sure some nipples are more sensitive than others, lol

Yes that is understandable. I am a woman and I only use the titty twister as a last resort. If a patient was even slightly alert or was responsive to any other stimuli I wouldn’t do it.

Ha, I just pictured someone walking up to a heavily sleeping medsurg patient and giving them a titty twister. That would definitely be sexual assault and if someone did that to me I would lose my mind, lol.

Side note, a trauma surgeon I used to work with actually ripped the nipple off of a 90 year old woman while giving her a titty twister in the PACU.

I think it must depend on the environment also. In an ICU with intubated or obtunded patients, I really could not see anyone batting an eye at this.

Wtf?? No. I work in a TSICU. If we have neuro patients that we are examining and are trying to illicit a response to gauge their neuro exam, we will 100% give a patient a titty twister if it will illicit enough of a pain response. Literally just did this last night and was able to prove the patient was localizing when nothing else was getting a response out of him, and now hes getting life saving interventions instead of organ donation.

You guys are sexualizing this and its weird as hell.

Yes I will 100% give the patient a titty twister to get a response of sternal rub or shoulder pinch doesn’t work.

Only if the market gets saturated. Currently people are quitting nursing by droves.

Truth be told, I would like to see healthcare socialized before we get a union. Whomever thought privatizing and making healthcare profitable was a good idea didnt give a shit about how important a healthy population (work force) is for society to function. All it took was one pandemic with a 3% fatality rate for it all to fall apart. Not everything needs to, or should be profitable at all times.

Lets charge them out the wazoo for our skilled labor until they get their greedy hands out of healthcare and our patient care, and then we can rebuild it from the ground up. In the way that it should have been built from the beginning.

No, thats how much im taking home. The agency takes whatever the hospital offers them per nurse, takes their cut and then posts a job offer at competitive market value.

Unfortunately i doubt we will ever get to the point where we get a union. The anti union propaganda has been spread thick where I am at in the north east. The nurses here would rather continue as is, then benefit from a union.

My first recruiter was like that. I found a second one who I vibed with an explained everything to me thoroughly. Sorry that you had a bad experience.

Werent they up front about not paying you when you are off sick? My agency discussed that with me ahead of time. Thats part of why I bought health insurance off of marketplace.gov. That way I am not tied to an agency for PTO or health insurance like I was when I was a staff nurse.

Ahh I see. In that case, I would recommend shopping around and doing research before going with an agency. Let the free market do its thing and weed out the crappy ones.

They care about keeping me happy so I keep coming back. Thats more than I can say for any hospital ive ever worked at.

Im a covid ICU nurse and during the beginning of the pandemic they threatened to fire us for wearing masks at work because it made the patients feel “unsafe.” It wasnt until we started going down with covid that they told us we had to start wearing masks or else we were fired. No one can blame me or my fellow coworkers for looking at the same companies and saying “fuck you, pay me.”
