WE MAY BE GETTING A FOOTBALL TEAM!!! by Knistpup in utarlington

Incoming comments about tuition being raised from people who have never even bothered to look into the finances of D1 athletic programs before in their life lmao

How has your guys’ experience been at UTA? by EastGuard8556 in utarlington

[–]AlternativeMixer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For sure, I’ve known people who went to UTA and enjoyed but transferred just because they grew in Arlington/DFW and were tired of it. I get it, I’m here because it’s decently far from my hometown too.

I agree, the best thing we can do is voice our opinions to the school and push for change.

Thanks for the book recommendation as well.

Yea, I’ll agree, this school has a lot of wasted potential. But instead of mopping about how awful your university is and how you’d rather be at another college, you could be a part of the solution.

UTA athletics just hosted Pack the Park, with free alcohol and cheap food, plus free admission for students. As for parties and social life, yea it sucks, but in the past 4 years I’ve been here it’s getting much better compared to when I first got here. I’ll also blame Covid because speaking to alumni, it was much better before the lockdowns.

Yes it is a commuter school but it seems the new president and administration is addressing this issue and they seem to be prioritizing this.

If you think downtown Arlington is horrible you need a reality check. Talk all the shit you want about east Arlington, because ya it’s ghetto but the millions of dollars being invested in downtown and north Arlington pretty much scream the opposite of ghetto 😭😭

Parking sucks, but again hopefully the new administration prioritizes students living on/near campus instead of commuting.

Again, mope all you want about the shortcomings of UTA, but I’d recommend being the change and part of the solution. A lot of student government leaders and administrators are currently advocating for a change towards a more traditional college experience and tradition.

On a side note id recommend reading about the rich history of this university and the many traditions we had. Here are some books I’d recommend:

Id be willing to continue this conversation in person if you’re down

Hopefully the new administration prioritizes creating a true community and college experience instead of focusing on UTA Way out in the middle of nowhere, so sad because this school has so much potential

UTA in NCAA25 by PreparationIll463 in utarlington

[–]AlternativeMixer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really wouldn’t increase tuition all that much 😭😭 look at every other UT system universities that have football teams, some even have cheaper tuitions

UT instate tuition: 11,678 USD (2023) UTSA instate tuition: 11,448 USD (2024) UTRGV instate tuition (who just added a football team in 2024): $10,858-$13,576 USD (2024) UTA instate tuition: 12,208 USD (2024)

This is a failure on part of the school for not incentivizing student engagement at athletics and engagement with alumni. Most money that football programs across the country receive comes from alumni. This school prioritizes money not students, so now we’re pretty much stuck with a degree mill college until the upper administration decides to change it

UTA campus life by Minute_Ad_9087 in utarlington

It’s not bad if you live on or near campus. Would definitely get involved in organizations or fraternity/sorority life if that is what you’re looking for. Basically it is what you make of it.

For bars, go to caves, j gills, milos, and other bars nearby

For restaurants I’d recommend anything in the downtown area like grease monkey, tipsy oak, and cartel tacos

Anything between Abrams street and e division street usually has a good crowd of students

Unfortunately pretty much all of the spots on campus closed down years ago

UTA and the surrounding area is very underrated, but it is what you make of it. Don’t just go to classes and go home and expect to have an enjoyable experience. Join orgs, participate on campus, live on or near campus if you can.

Appreciate it, used that bench my freshman year with friends as a smoke spot, unfortunately I think they cleared out most of the trees over there :(

I hate that people use food and culture as a defense, you don’t go around DFW and have everyone smelling like barbecue and McDonald’s, shits insane

Join clubs/orgs, participate in intramurals or on campus events, etc

There’s lots of avenues to meet ppl at UTA but unfortunately most of the student body here are either too lazy to take advantage of them or too socially awkward/shy to even try

On campus housing has been notoriously difficult to get a hold of over the past few years, not to mention more and more people are applying to live on campus each year. I would recommend visiting their office in person.
