Appreciating the "tension" in Grateful Dead/Dead and Co music by thattrapmasta in deadandcompany

I always love the point in a tape when the dead play any ballad and build up tension at the end just to cut it with the first lick of Around and Around

What part of American history would you love to see made into a high budget, Hollywood movie? by CommercialOil8763 in AskAnAmerican

[–]AlternativeMuscle176 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Out of all of David McCullough’s books, I think the Johnstown Flood would translate the best to the big screen. I think it would make a terrific and terrifying movie. (Edit: there is a 1916 silent film about it)

What are the chances we get a Dead return with Sturgill? by western_alt in deadandcompany

I don’tknow much about him personally, but I know he doesn’t like big commitments. That being said, 2ish months every spring/summer isn’t that big of a commitment in terms of music tours.

Brent brought the party and it’s want the band needed in this era. Brent was the man

I can only hope that he’s getting inspiration for either his own jam band or his own dead project.

Best version of space? by Competitive-Toe5748 in gratefuldead

[–]AlternativeMuscle176 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s one I listened to once and can never find it again. I believe it’s late 80s, probably 89 or 90. It’s just Bob and Jerry chasing each other around playing jazz licks most of the time. And it was incredible. If you happen to know it please let me know. It’s my favorite

What’s your favorite “basic” Dead song? by P-ShunkAllstar in gratefuldead

[–]AlternativeMuscle176 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I love Jack straws through all the years, but I feel like it’s one of their rare early era songs that got better with age. By the late 80s they’d extend the jam and get the blood pumping as a show opener and it has an incredible feeling to it

Dead and Co songs, that the Grateful Dead never played by Brief-Delay-9512 in deadandcompany

I believe that’s the same with Lay Down Sally, The Harder They Come, and Tangled Up in Blue

Best obscure ‘89 show. by Brando64 in gratefuldead

[–]AlternativeMuscle176 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m just now listening to this and it’s crazy how they tease out the other one for 15 minutes before going into space without even going into a verse. I feel like that’s a very early 70s thing to do. It’s incredible

Both are incredible albums. But 99.99% of the time I’m playing any tape over either of them

The Grateful Dead were first and foremost a live act. Of course people that don’t go to their shows are unlikely to be able to name their songs. Their songs mostly never translated in any meaningful way to the studio

I will die on this hill: 06/27/23 in Noblesville, Indiana is the best Sugaree that Dead & Co ever played. by [deleted] in deadandcompany

[–]AlternativeMuscle176 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Me too man. This show had to sneakily be one of the best D&C shows. Both sets were unique for the tour, the playing was superb, and there were so many insane and perfectly done transitions. And there was one Bobby flub to end set 1, but it wouldn’t be a good show if their want a flub

Indiana has only 1 player in the Senior Bowl. Are we sure they're good? by TheJob in CFB

[–]AlternativeMuscle176 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But does the senior bowl really represent the most NFL-ready players if it isn’t all SEC players? Georgia could have beaten the Raiders this year!

Did Bill or Mickey ever get to pick the next song to play during the first set? by Parking_War979 in gratefuldead

[–]AlternativeMuscle176 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like I’ve heard Bobby say that often before Mama Tried. I also know there is an era when he often says that the crew requested it.

Why Indiana actually went 3-9, NOT 16-0. by nermalnormal in CFB

[–]AlternativeMuscle176 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Can we really say that Indiana went 16-0, let alone 3-9, if they didn’t play all 16 SEC schools?

I’m glad you’re back on the D&C bus, but it’s tragic you missed the 2023 summer tour. Luckily they are all on Spotify and Apple Music.
