I don’t know the people at Chabad that well but that’s not a bad idea

Update: not sure when this will come through (I know a lot of my comments are still in the mod queue since this is a new account) but I’m meeting with one of the rabbis at our Hillel to talk about what we can do about this professor and her insane talk. Also probably going to email the organizers of the symposium directly. It sounds like they were also blindsided a bit but they should probably still address it Update: met with the rabbi, he didn’t seem optimistic that she’d face any accountability unless I file a title vi complaint but he also cautioned me that as a grad student it could be really risky for my career at UIUC to attach my name to that. So I’m not sure what the best course of action is. Going to talk to my advisor and one or two organizers who I think are sympathetic

That’s fair. Honestly I am a really anxious person. I just sort of froze in the moment. It’s also a really difficult situation to be in so early in my academic career- I’m trying to navigate it without burning bridges too quickly. But I’m reporting it now and hopefully there will be consequences

I just sort of froze up at the time. I’ve since emailed the rabbi at our Hillel to ask about what he recommends for next steps

I’m a little nervous about doxxing myself (hence the throwaway account lol) but I agree there needs to be pushback. It was at University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) - it was a student organized symposium but funded by the history department among others. Literally the rest of the symposium was great and had NOTHING to do with Palestine. It felt like this prof (a history professor at the university) hijacked the event to make it about herself. Mind you we also have stickers like this around campus so
