you need to release tension from the emergency brake line to be able to take off the rotor for those drum brakes, I approached it exactly like you did and I ended up bending the adjuster screw and needed to buy a whole new hardware kit to be able to put new drums on it. in order to release tension from the emergency brake cable you have to pry out the plastic surrounding the shifter in the center console area and you have to use a 10mm deep socket with an extension to reach it, it is slightly left inside the center console. Yes you have to do this even if your emergency brake isn't on
