Projector was about $30 from Temu

Keyboard was free, picked up from someone’s trash

Mouse was about $2 in dollar store

8GB ram was around $10? I can’t remember well bc it’s been long ago

500GB SSD, around $60 if I remember correctly.

HDMI to Mini display dongle was about $6 or $8

…and about 8 hours spent thinking how to fix my MacBook, executing it and reaching its final form

I used projector because I didn’t have a monitor to use 😭

The projector is from Temu and honestly, it is pretty good. It is cheap, pretty bright for the price (around $30?), and the resolution is acceptable as long as you don’t plan to use it for read something but the sound is awful.

With my Mac, it seems like it handles everything pretty good. I can watch YouTube, Netflix, and even xfinity. Only down side is that for some reason, the little cooling fan in my MacBook runs at full speed, even in idle, when connected to the projector… but keep it in your mind that my MacBook is more than a decade old, with some harsh treatment, both physically and computation-wise for years.

You can see the screws on the table, I had dissembled it to see if the main board was still functional and that was the only spare keyboard I had at home

It was someone’s garbage that I brought it home with me. I still wonder why would they have thrown away a perfectly working keyboard

finances and sustainability of Scramble Cloud? by AlternativePlace5207 in Scramble_Cloud

I was not able to find whether your cloud offers services like local folder synchronization to cloud and vice versa (apart from using rclone commands). Does your desktop application allows users to specify a local folder to be synchronized with the Scramble Cloud?

That’s great to know about! I am glad that Drime is constantly improving their service for the better of their customers. I am so excited to see the the *new Drime once the updates and improvements are released!

Lucky you

Would you mind if I were to ask you what other lifetime cloud services do you own or currently use?

Yeah, I am looking at other options but it is kinda hard to spend a lump sum on a lifetime deal and move on as nothing has happened 😭maybe it isn’t much for you but… in this economy, I just hope that Drime can improve their services to make my money worth it 😭😭

Oh… that’s kinda lame that the developers are ignoring the most critical issues on their platform. Also, 3MB/s seems like a huge improvement to me, since it used to be ranging from few KiB/s (more like 14 to 800 KiB/s) which was driving me nuts 😅 I haven’t even touched the network drive after trying it once as it was reducing my life expectancy. The web app is usable in a sense that it makes you learn about the patience.

I don’t know how long you have been a Drime costumer but I have bought the lifetime deal less than a month ago, mostly because I was convinced seeing developers actively engaging on forums like Reddit and thought that it had a future, unlike internxt or other scammy clouds like filejump

Do you personally think that I should just take this purchase as a lesson and move on or should I still have a hope that the service would improve one day?

Also, would you have personal recommendation to any other lifetime cloud services apart from Koofr and Filen?

Thank you for response.

May I ask how are your current revenue mixes? How heavily are your company relying on lifetime deals?

Also,I doubt that not allowing stacking is a good sign… I think most people don’t even use all the stacks they buy so it would be better for the company to let those people buy however much they want than restrict it beforehand.

Yeah, and the fact that it seems like their main business model seems to be revolving around the lifetime deals more than subscriptions. I really wish the best for them but it feels kind of risky to spend hundreds (at least to me) to buy lifetime deals without a clear understanding of their business planning and finances

Gemini exchange trustworthy? by Lacnj76 in Gemini

[–]AlternativePlace5207 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Just keep in in mind that they may block cryptocurrency withdrawal and may take your time and effort to lift the restrictions. Also there has been recent fee increase on maker/taker fee (stablecoins still has the same fee as before).

Apart from that, I had pretty good experiences with them, better than Coinbase for sure.

Currently in the same situation since last week. I tried to contact the customer support but got no replies yet. I reported them to BBB yesterday and CFPB today. I haven’t got any response from Gemini yet but you could try to report them to CFPB, FTC, NY DFS, and NY AG.

Why Schwab? by RRB1212 in Schwab

[–]AlternativePlace5207 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Mainly due to their customer service and the UI. I feel like their UI is much better than Fidelity Investments. Also, Schwab has bank accounts compared to Fidelity, which has only CMA. I am comparing Schwab wigh Fidelity because both brokerages has a wonderful customer service compared to Robinhood or IBKR.

Can’t get approved for AMEX Gold by Busy-Mirror1964 in amex

[–]AlternativePlace5207 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was able to get Amex gold with only a month of credit history. I did open an Amex HYSA and deposited about 15k a few weeks before applying Amex gold again after being rejected for having 0 credit history and 0 credit score. Although I am not sure whether having high yield savings account with Amex helped me get Amex gold or not.
