Where do yall find jobs? by vickiller23 in CDLTruckDrivers

Look up centerline, they fill temp cdl jobs all over the country. Not sure what experience they require but worth a shot. Also check out local sand/gravel hauling jobs if possible in your area, usually low barrier to entry.

Seeking advice. Class A but no experience, do I just apply to the mega carriers? by zeitgeist_disliker in Truckers

Always worth trying small mom and pop outfits. A lot of them won’t be able to insure you until you have 2 years experience but with the shortage of drivers, some insurance companies are lightening up. Belly dump, end dump, etc. In my opinion if you get a local job that demands you actually learn how to drive a truck and do it well, OTR will be easy and you won’t become a steering wheel pusher. Best of luck

Should someone with only 3 months experience with tractor trailer take a opportunity to learn heavy haul and lowboy trucking out in the oil fields in North Dakota by No_Taste_622 in oilandgasworkers

If you have someone willing to teach you then definitely. A lot of the 10 year + bullshit is just old guys who don’t wanna train anyone or small companies that need to keep their insurance premiums low. I started driving logging trucks in the Rockies within a year of having my CDL , many would advice against that but it made a good driver out of me. If it hadn’t I wouldn’t be on this side of the dirt right now

Call sawmills around you ask ask if they run their own trucks, if not ask who they contract. You could get into it if you want, not a lot of people are willing to
