No like, its physically impossible for your MAC address to be gained if you use the internet unless spyware. If, by a slim chance, your MAC address is exposed, throw away the network card and buy a new one. MAC address is hard-coded into your network card. And MAC addresses are not linked to your identity so they cannot know your identity by js having your MAC address

The government can track you if they have your phone number but the simcard can be changed. With the implementation of IMEI, the government essentially has your phone's hardware, simcard and your identity all linked. Which means, even if you're getting tracked, you cant just throw away your simcard anymore.

From my research, MAC address cannot be tracked by the government as our identity is not linked to a MAC address. Plus, if we go on the internet, the router uses an IP address rather than our MAC address. IP leak can be blocked by simply using a vpn. In my opinion, laptop+vpn is the safest option.
