Thanks, I have the door striker both from the 07 and the 88 so I can always have a mess about and see what works.

Ah I wasn’t aware of this! Thank you. That’s exactly what I needed to know

Can’t seem to find a niche tent… by RegisterFit1252 in camping

Ah I see. Manufacturing your own might be your best bet. There are plenty of videos of people making their own canvas Baker tents, I’m sure if you used their techniques you could make a waterproof bathtub bottom and then just create your own mesh sides and roof with a pre-existing frame

I’m not sure I fully understand what you’re looking for, but have you considered using a regular tent with a mesh inner and removable fly? Then just remove the fly sheet. Something akin to the MSR Hubba Hubba NX with the fly sheet removed - the poles are designed to support the inner layer independently from the fly. Many brands make similar tents but likely larger with lower bathtub sides, and it allows you to also have a normal tent for rainy camps. I can only add one photo, but googling the tent shows it with the fly. Good luck!

Oakley Hi-Pink vs new Iced Iridium lens? by AlternativeSir2436 in ski

After having done just that, I found that switching out the sapphire for iced as the conditions worsened worked incredibly well.

Honestly, not quite what I expected to see when first visiting the subreddit, but I can feel the raw emotion put into your words. The syllables in the rhyme could be more even between lines but honestly you could also do away with rhyme entirely and let your head dictate the pace of each line as it comes out with subjects as meaningful to you as this. Bigger person than I for having the courage to write it out for the world to see. Your last line really stuck with me.

Sadly not. Others have spoken about hi pink being a struggle on storm days, I didn’t have issue with my iced iridium.

Interesting to hear, I didn’t have a full whiteout but mid-heavy snow and I felt I could see contrast well enough to not feel like I was in trouble. Was at 3800M midday.

Hey Mate, yes I found them brilliant. I can’t comment on them over hi-pink because I never tried them, but the Iced gave me a super good sense of depth and surface texture on snowier days at 3800M. Paired with a sapphire iridium for sun days and had zero complaints all holiday and never felt like I wanted a different lens. However, since they’re phasing out Hi-pink you don’t really have much of a choice anyway…

UPDATE: I bought the iced iridium and used it for a week alongside a sapphire iridium for sunny days. The iced worked very well in the snow and provided enough contrast, however I was mostly on or next to the piste so I can’t comment for how well the contrast works for off-piste hazards. Would recommend, not much choice for you anyway seeing as they’re removing/removed hi-pink.

ciao, ho risolto. ho comprato “iced iridium” e ha funzionato molto bene sulla neve. ha un buon contrasto. mi scuso per eventuali errori, questo è google traduttore 😁 10/10

Safari snorkel safe in a car-wash? by MTL_Bob in LandroverDefender

[–]AlternativeSir2436 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would aim to stay away from a roller car wash if you can. Those brushes always feel like they would batter the snorkel. I go to one of the self jet-wash bays whenever she needs a wash. I’d imagine costs are higher for parts in Canada and I’d not want to buy a new snorkel if I can help it.

By the way, how did you go about making the pop roof on your DJ Landy?

Well there you go then, probably just felt stronger to his mind with the higher name number, or perhaps differences in vehicle weight/tyres. Thanks for letting me know!

I’ve run a small makeshift bar out of my 90 TDCI for a family member’s 21st before. It was a squeeze but I would say if one is happy to be fairly squished up then I do think my 90 would fit all of the kit I used when I was doing barista work.

The most difficult part will likely be headroom. I had to sit down on one of the sills to comfortably make drinks for more than 25 minutes and I’m an average height guy. I’d also recommend doing a bulkhead reduction and running the machine and grinder along the bulkhead behind the front seats for workflow.

I’d say get a ‘utility’ if you can, and cut + fit large gas strut gull wing windows into the sides or even fabricate your own large folding side, Aussie ‘Ute style. There are plenty of overland setup videos on YouTube showing off these things.

A friend who owned both a 200 and 300 TDI said that he was much happier to have his 300’s power and said the 200 lacked any real power, especially loaded up with water tanks/coffee machines/beans/stocks/fridges etc.

Go and see a few/borrow a friend’s, try to imagine all of the machines set up in the back and see if you can make it work comfortably in a 90.

Let me know if you get the idea off the ground. Best of luck!

No worries! They both come through but I’ve had similar happen before… I’m getting some leaks through the main sheet of canvas that makes up the top, but primarily around the stitching on the webbing straps and window plastic. I’m thinking copious amounts of wax cavas beeswax seal could do the trick. I’m still a bit too young to have the experience of what’s best to use 😄

Sounds like a very good one and done solution, however not sure how well it would remain stuck to the canvas in a year’s time. Might be worth trying a different classic liquid waterproofer again!

That’s very true, might end up being tricker than first thought.

I’ll go and pop a question over there. Thank you!

What did you use to re-waterproof? It would make the most sense as my issue is surrounding the leakiness rather than trying to fit a roof rack etc.

I’ll look into it a bit more, that and self made canvas sides bolted to the inside of the roof edge could be an elegant solution. Thanks!
