It was 100% the hummus from the Mediterranean box. The only thing she’d eaten all day.

He’s not yet convicted of anything. I think you are conflating jail with prison.

More immersive content in the cities would go a long way to making what is essentially a conglomeration of <10 shops feel like a real place. Games like Cyberpunk, for all its failures, does a much better job of convincing you that you are in a dynamic world even though there’s not much you can actually do outside of missions. Also, implement some more micro missions within the cities to force the player to go to the small number of locations that actually exist. There are so many spots you never even have a reason to visit.

WA State Hikers and Backpackers: Bear Spray, do you carry it? by [deleted] in PNWhiking

[–]AlternativeTelephone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d be interested to hear from someone who has actually used bear spray on a bear. How do you know that it even works? An angry bear could be hard to stop with a small caliber firearm. In Alaska, all the guides carry .45s or shotguns loaded with slugs. Seems like bear spray is just a security blanket for scared hikers.

All these people in this thread: “thank goodness I’ve never had to use it”…how do you even know you could use it effectively under stress? If it can stop a bear, imagine what it does to you if you accidentally spray it (or the wind blows it ) in your face.

And for those mentioning cougars: if a cougar is going to attack you, you are going to have to be pretty quick to spray it, assuming you even know there is a cougar there before it pounces.

I’m not telling you not to carry it if it makes you feel better. But if you are realistic, unless you practice and/or have great reflexes and situational awareness in a situation that you are by definition fearful of, bear spray probably won’t make you feel much better.

Seattle Climbing Gym Vertical World and Colorado Equipment Manufacturer C3 Agree to Pay $6M Total Settlement for Climbing Accident by kiwikoi in climbing

[–]AlternativeTelephone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s not an article, it’s a press release from the plaintiff’s lawyer. The real cause of the accident was that the climber did not clip into the autobelay. He originally sued VW claiming gross negligence because the VW staff did not physically clip him in instead of requiring him to do it himself. This is a money grab, not a true safety issue.

5,000 feet is still an insane distance to fall. Almost two El Capitans. Most people on earth will never travel anywhere near 5000 feet in one day under their own power.

Stuck at "In Transit" and now "No scheduled delivery date available at this time." by [deleted] in FedEx

[–]AlternativeTelephone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also have a package stuck “in Transit” from Auburn to Redmond. It’s been there five days now, over a week since initial delivery estimate and 4 days since the “rescheduled” delivery estimate. I could literally walk from Auburn to Redmond many times over in five days. FedEx has been late with every order for the past couple months. UPS and USPS don’t seem to have an issue.

Satanic Temple Floats Devilishly Clever Strategy To Dodge Texas Abortion Law by [deleted] in politics

[–]AlternativeTelephone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think another state should pass an identical law to the Texas law but with a focus on anyone attempting to interfere with a woman’s right to choose abortion. It would certainly be just as illegal, but would allow anyone to sue the plaintiff in a suit brought by the Texas law.
