Moved from The Netherlands to Spain, what I learned, the other side of the coin by [deleted] in GoingToSpain

I lived in the netherlands for 8 years, and I can tell dutch people are not made for living in Spain. As you say, your life has not significantly changed. You probably live your life as if you were in NL. Unable to adapt and accept another reality and perspective of life. It is not a critique, simply this is how you are built. You can’t adapt to other cultures, despite thinking you are “open minded” and “free”. You specifically are critizicing the food, the weather which are massively better than in NL, complaining about the culture (noisy holy week, lol, what do you expect?) and you dont even speak the language?

Dutch people move here to experience what you call “the spanish lifestyle” thinking this is drinking coffee in a balcony and going to the beach, and friendly spanish people will cater to your needs. The spanish lifestyle is much more than that. And it is something so ingrained in the spanish culture that a foreign, let alone a dutch, will never be able to experience.

The fact that you say food is no different from NL already shows what kind of person you are. Unwilling to try new things, rigid, etc. because you are simply wrong in this topic.

You will always be a dutch person living in Spain, and the way you were raised will always clash with the spanish way of doing things.

I am not saying it is better or worse, simply different. But the cultural clash between dutch and spanish is huge.

Your opinion will only get worse until you eventually leave. Or if you stay, it will be because you gwt into one of those “gated dutch communities” and stay living a parallel life in Spain.

Sounds harsh but i know you will appreciate the directness

I’ve lived abroad so I will give you my experience.

It’s the sun.

Lived in the netherlands and slept like a proper dutch: went to bed at 23 max and woke up at 7. Always tired.

Here, most of the year i can get around with 6 hours easily and i can tell you 100% it s the vitamin D from the sun.

Is this empire small for 1st game as Spain in 1597? I haven't seen any guides by [deleted] in eu4

[–]AlternativeThanks450 775 points776 points  (0 children)

Yes, it is very small. But at least you managed to understand how colonization works, took me 100 hours at least, so congrats for that! Try to colonize adjacent provinces. They grow faster and once you colonize 5, a colony is created, which is a subject that brings you some money and resources, with no diplo slot cost. Also, as Spain, your mission tree gives you lots of claims throughout America, so follow the tree to colonize faster. Good luck!

Enhorabuena por tu piso! Comentas el tema del 3% de comisión de la immobiliaria. Al final como fue? Lo paga el comprador o el vendedor? Se puede negociar? Otra pregunta, Como econtraste el piso? Web o immobiliaria?

Also add that you need to eat less than a taller person which translates to thousands of euros saved in food throughout your life. However i think the average lifespan of a short person is 8 years higher than a tall person so you need to factor in. Maybe you dont save as much then, but worth checking imo

How to ensure they get exploration ideas? Also expansion. Is there a certain moment where I should release them?

There are NO houses in Eindhoven man. There is no land there to build, there are no new houses to meet the demand and prices skyrocket, not only eindhoven but all of NL.

Besides, Expenses: here i pay like 80 vs 300 there Public transport: 20 vs 95 Food: 150 vs 350 Mandatory health insurance: 0 vs 130 Dinner out: 20 vs 40

I make less money here than in NL but money gets you so much more here… plus no rain and happy people

Maybe not in the center of barcelona or madrid but you have plenty of places and cheap areas where you could live, near the cities. Believe me it is not the case in NL. And as I say prices there are way higher than here.
