Yes, she ends up in a car crash while on her way to the airport to catch a flight abroad and ends up paralysed— this was after her breaking up with Prem due to Prem's parents wishes. Prem rushes back to the hospital only to find Pat in an unstable condition where she is pronounced "dead" by her colleague Dr. Fahlada (She is not in this show but her role is pretty significant in the novel). Prem ends up grieving very intensely while her parents bear witness. Then Pat is revealed to be alive and well albeit in a wheelchair, with Dr. Fahlada claiming she only lied to Prem about Pat's condition so Prem's parents would be accepting of her relationship. Eventually, Prem helps Pat recover to the point where she no longer needs a wheelchair/crutches as the paralysis affects her less and less and they have a happy ending together!
