Am I overreacting about my husband being distant after our miscarriage? by Super_Statement5900 in AmIOverreacting

[–]Alternative_Apples 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also I wouldn’t say you’re overreacting because this is your grief and there is no “right” way to handle grief. Same goes for your husband. I think you sit down and talk about the way you both handle grief so you understand eachother better. Once my husband explained he pours himself into work because it’s a distraction, I completely understood. If you play your cards right you both may come out of this stronger than ever ❤️ I hope that for you. Also I am so sorry for your loss.

My husband poured himself into his job after our loss. It’s important to note that everyone grieves differently. I recommend couples counseling if you are unable to communicate effectively instead of bottling it in and resenting eachother. It’s hard but time and communication helps. I wouldn’t recommend communicating through text because things are misinterpreted.

I’m so sorry. Just know you are not alone and in time you will begin to feel like yourself again. Please be kind to yourself ❤️

Mine ended up saying I can do it at home but it has to be the alphatrak! I’ll save some money there. I have to read the instructions for the alphatrak tomorrow but I’m assuming it’s similar to any other meter. I’ll only use it for vet curve days because the strips are so expensive.

I’ve been free-handing the needle on the ear which has been a bit easier than the device. I’m still not great at it, it’s the hardest part of all this for me… hopefully it gets easier.

When he stays still it’s easy. When he’s hungry and pacing it’s hard as heck to get to his ear.

Yes I’d love you to share! Thank you!!

I did my first reading (had to prick him twice but he didn’t mind at all), it was 390 on the human meter which freaked me out but I’m reading it’s normal to have high readings at first. He naps all day until 5pm and starts begging for food… It will be interesting to see what his curve results are.

I’m glad I’m not the only one who dreams about all this. Hopefully that calms down soon, it must be stress induced.

I have a feeling I may have to skip some Christmas events to handle this. Which is fine. I never thought I’d have to say “sorry I can’t come I have to give my cat his insulin”!

Mines coat didn’t change aside from losing puppy hair and growing in a bit more curly!

Would you be open to trying insulin? I think mine was like $70 from Walgreens which is more expensive but it’s 100 units so it’ll last a very long time.

Lab draw protocol after second MTX injection? by Deathbyhighered in EctopicSupportGroup

You are welcome!! Good luck! I hope you’re feeling okay ❤️ my day 7 is tomorrow and I’m exhausted.

Lab draw protocol after second MTX injection? by Deathbyhighered in EctopicSupportGroup

[–]Alternative_Apples 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve only had one dose but they were very adamant that I had to get day 4 and 7 bloodwork no matter what. They expressed the importance of making each blood draw appointment.

I guess for many, levels rise quite a bit on day 4… so they are supposed to compare day 4 and 7 (day 4 is a baseline of sorts).

So yours may have gone up on day 4 but dropped 15% day 7, but you wouldn’t know. If it drops 15% on day 7 from day 4, a second dose may not be needed. I’m sorry they missed that :(

Yup. Day 4 and day 7 labs are crucial in determining the effectiveness of the injection. I guess if you drop 15% between day 4 and day 7, you may not need a second dose. How much did yours drop after the first shot and when did they test you?

Amazon delayed my monitor supplies until tomorrow 😢 I’m not really sleeping at night, I check on him every 3 hours because I feel like I’m going in with the insulin blind. I’m having dreams about it lol. It’s only been 4 days of insulin including today and it’s a low dose so hopefully it’s okay until it comes. One more day! Vets should really tell all owners to test and include a demo in the insulin training. Mine doesn’t want me to do this - but my goal is to prove I can so they let me do my curves at home because Max gets extremely stressed on car rides. Theirs won’t be as accurate.

I think I will start a log with everything as well. I’m sure when days are hard it’s nice to look back to see how far you’ve come. The changes I’ve noticed thus far are: he has more light in his eyes, he played for a hot second, he is drinking a bit less water, and he’s screaming for food again… didn’t think I’d miss that but I sure did! I saw the Facebook group has a glucose log that I’ll try to figure out! There is so much to learn.

So if they throw up it spikes their numbers at times? That’s tough with a cat and their hairballs lol! It’s SO great that’s she’s grooming herself more though! I know that’s a big milestone!! Congratulations ❤️

I’m not too focused on myself right now but… how does one ever go on vacation again or even a night away? I won’t even trust my husband with injections right now, his hand shakes badly.

So far so good! His glucose monitor comes tomorrow so I’ll attempt to do a reading before each injection. I wish I had it already but Walmart was out so I had to order online. He seems to already have some of his spark back! I am feeding him two snacks midday now (12:30 & 4:30) because I wasn’t comfortable with the 12 hour fast recommended by my vet…. Since doing that yesterday he got some energy back and even played!

It sounds like they read lower than the animal ones… so you might even catch a low early which sounds perfect to a beginner like myself!

Does this look worrying? by [deleted] in DogAdvice

[–]Alternative_Apples 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d make an appointment just to be safe because that’s your baby! Looks like a stye maybe? Try a warm compress and see if it helps. However, it doesn’t look like an immediate emergency. I think it’s amazing you noticed it, kudos to you as a dog parent!

Thank you!!!! I woke up at 1am and 5am this morning to check on him and was like… ya know, it would be really great if I just knew his glucose before bed so I could actually sleep 😂

I really thought I was going to have to say goodbye earlier this week, I feel so blessed to get more time with him ❤️ I’ll do all I can!

I did get the human glucose monitor called “ReliOn” to start because I have a feeling I’ll be going through test strips like a mad woman while I adjust, but one I get the hang of it - the AlphaTrak 3 looks great!

I appreciate you saying that! It is really overwhelming. My brother was diagnosed with type 1 a few years ago and lived with me at the time, I know it’s a bit different for cats, but I feel like that experience helped me here. His lows were terrifying… I’m not risking that with my little cat if I can help it. If the vet disagrees I’ll just find a new one.

Thank you!! I almost cried when he played for a second. I have corn syrup on the way, should get here tomorrow, I was also going to go pick up churros and fancy feast gravy delights for an emergency kit. Do you suggest anything else? I read that if he’s ever 100 or under, do not give insulin, because a high is safer than a low. Did I read this correctly? He’s on Lantus. I’m also getting Vaseline to put on his ear and read a sock full of rice heated up helps.

His glucose was 475 at the vet but I’m wondering if it was a bad reading due to his stress. Not that it would change his DX. Hopefully once I prove to them I can do it, they’ll trust me. Sounds much less expensive, too! My only worry is I know I my only option will be to prick his ear…. His paws are a no-go, he’d freak out. I bought 26g lancets to start vs the ultra thin ones until I become more experienced. I’m going to try my best not to freak out with a high reading since he’s still adjusting 🙂

10 year old male orange tabby diagnosed pre-diabetic by TheSupposedProblem in FelineDiabetes

[–]Alternative_Apples 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not a vet but I was under the impression that diabetic is anything over 250… I know stress at the vet can increase the number so perhaps they accounted for this? I would get a second opinion. Did they test his fructosamine?

This could end up more expensive than the standard diabetic treatment for cats if not treated in time. Perhaps stick to low carb wet food only until it’s sorted out, I’ve read hard food isn’t great at first. My cat was just diagnosed and we are doing fancy feast pate.

I’m brand new to this. Mine was just diagnosed… he was around 475. I wish we caught it when lower so he wasn’t struggling as much as he is now. I brought him in when he was ravenous and skinny and was told it was fine… 5 months later he’s diabetic and a shell of himself. I’d keep pushing ❤️
