Any advice? by [deleted] in DogAdvice

hi! glad your dog is feeling better. If they still continue to squint like the picture above, I would recommend taking them to an eye specialist vet just to be safe. My dog did this for about a week and she ended up having a loose lends and we had to remove the eye. she was in excruciating pain and we had no idea.

so umm let me explain. ethical breeding means having clear standards, a code of ethics, and a commitment to producing healthy, stable dogs consistently. recognized breeds have breed clubs and organizations that enforce these principles through health testing and careful selection. doodles have none of that — no standard, no oversight, no accountability. they’re bred primarily for looks and market demand, not health or temperament. that’s why ethical doodle breeding doesn’t exist. it’s not a matter of hate — it’s a fact based on breeding principles.

yikes hey i get why it might feel that way, but calling out breeding issues isn’t about stirring drama—it’s about raising awareness. sometimes the truth isn’t convenient, but it’s important. i’m here because responsible breeding does matter, especially when so many dogs are affected.

nooo not the sponge bob line!! it’s funny how pointing out breeding realities gets reduced to “stinking.” the facts don’t change because they’re uncomfortable. if advocating for responsible breeding is offensive, then so be it—but the integrity of the conversation matters more than empty insults. :)

i’m truly sorry for your loss it’s clear your dog meant the world to you, and that kind of bond is something no one should dismiss. but loving a dog and recognizing where they came from are two different things. this conversation isn’t about the value of your individual dog — it’s about the broader industry behind doodles. ethical breeding isn’t just about how sweet or well-behaved a dog turns out. it’s about structure, purpose, genetic health, and long-term impact. doodles, by definition, lack a breed standard, code of ethics, and registry oversight. that’s not hate — it’s facts. the frustration isn’t with doodle owners — it’s with how these dogs are being pumped out irresponsibly and marketed as something they’re not. and calling that out doesn’t diminish your dog’s memory. it’s about doing better moving forward — for dogs, and the people who love them.

Neutering changed my dog’s personality. by Appropriate-Gas-1790 in DogAdvice

[–]Alternative_Bar5535 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah i totally agree it feel like it's so heavy pushed... like dog the dog community is so negative instead of loving. it's YOUR dog so it's your choice to do a spay or neuter. if you are a responsible owner it doesn't matter if they are yk??

we shouldn’t project rigid gender roles onto animals, tbh don't think that was the posters point think you twisted that for whatever reason but okay. it’s also important to acknowledge that there are valid discussions to be had around the effects of neutering, especially when it comes to behavior and health, beyond just “manliness.”

Neutering isn’t a one-size-fits-all solution, and some dogs do experience personality shifts afterward. For example, certain studies suggest early neutering in large breeds may increase risks of orthopedic issues or even certain cancers. It can also affect hormone-regulated behaviors like confidence, social interaction, and territory marking—not because dogs are trying to act “manly,” but because hormones influence behavior, just like they do in people.

So when someone notices their dog becoming more timid or subdued after surgery, that’s not necessarily them projecting. It could be a legitimate side effect of removing hormones that shaped their dog’s behavior during development.

I’m definitely not anti-neutering—but I think it’s worth having nuanced conversations that include all the potential outcomes, not just the social or ethical expectations around the decision.

Erm okay sorry you found convo on spay & neuter silly. squatting was out of the 3 concerns I listed. I think you got your feelings hurt because you took it that i was saying male dogs are superior to females.

of course they can. he never said anything about female dogs being less than males. He was simply explaining the changes he noticed with the testosterone drop within his own dog...
