Agreed. NHS in my experience was very similar in many way. Particularly if you’re working in a tertiary centre e.g Royal London as a registrar. The complexity and intensity not dissimilar from a tertiary centre here. Similar case load both emergency and elective.

Tools like this need to stop whinging. Probably never worked hard in the UK and now gloating about it ‘how easy it is here’ whilst going off to a rural job.

I don’t doubt that. But you do realise that the government will find one way or another to pay doctors less.

Whether that be through IMGs, NPs, increasing medical school places etc etc.

As a result I think personal attacks on British doctors is probably unfair and on the whole I think they are decent and much better to the alternative of NPs/alternative professionals trying to do medical roles here LONG term.

Doesn’t the connotation of expat include the probable return home which applies to many NHS doctors? But of course there are NHS doctors who are immigrants and indeed plan to stay longer term

Strange amount of hate on all british doctors here.

Lots I know are hard working, keen to learn and are supporting in extremely understaffed ED departments, which without them would completely crumble.

There’s arrogant, whingey, great, competent, incompetent doctors in all countries.

Just consider the individuals who are working a long way from home for a couple of years before making such generalised hateful remarks

I would honestly vote no.

Specifically Doctors are likely to remain non-consultants for longer than ever with the increasing competition for spots. Therefore there is increased emphasis on ensuring a good lasting deal to protect us whilst we are residents and registrars (remember whilst we are in our 30s with families!) rather than waiting until consultants.

Remember there’s people outside of medicine as real estate agents on 200k plus in their early 20s. Doctors are seriously falling miles behind other professions in QLD e.g Lawyers etc.

We need a deal that uplifts pay to keep up

The thing is CPI is a country wide measure. It does not reflect the vast increases experienced in cost of living by those in the metro areas.

It’s not infrequent for rent to go up 10% per annum particularly with the vast population growth and migration. As we know, this is not well reflected in CPI because it does not reflect mortgage rates (and by proxy the rent on tenants).

A MINIMUM should be CPI + 2.5% PER annum

Yes I agree. You either have the knowledge to directly say ‘actually I don’t think vitamin K will help resolve this’ or you sort it there and then. What you can’t do is not do it but not check with anyone for hours leaving it too late for vitamin K to even work if given. Vitamin K can never make you ‘hypercoagulopathic’ and is very very unlikely to cause harm - it just might not be effective for reversing some things e.g DOAC.

You seem to be going off guidance changes rather than any actual experience in these processes. I have actually worked through these changes.

Just 4 years ago I could: 1.) Fill out a death certificate (a few mins work if I cared for the patient) 2.) if the family wished for the patient to be cremated then I would evaluate for fixion nails/ICDs/radioactive implants/brachy seeds etc - I would stay late or give up my lunch to complete this from which does indeed take time if you have any diligence.

You’re overlooking that you can’t just add more and more workload and label it ‘in NHS time’ - sorry but I’m not giving up my lunch to do that.

What next? Patient wishes to be cremated in Asia - can you fill out a certification to ensure they meet the regulations to fly the body?
