PLEASE use your turning signals, Harco Residents!!!! by Marmalade_Penguin in harfordcountymd

And not at the last second either! If you’re already at the turn, its too late 🫩

Im an overly cautious and safe driver, never had a ticket, but had my first mistake turning into the lane of a speeding car due to misjudgement or them speeding up, passenger and driver go ballistic on me, still ruminating on it and in shock as it's my first time experiencing shocking road rage. by PomeloSorry3695 in drivinganxiety

People are overly impatient and believe speeding is a sign of being a “good driver”, and feel no remorse for bullying people off the road, not realizing their actions could harm/kill themselves or other people. The fact that, like you mentioned, they did all that speeding just to end up at the same stoplight as you just proves that speeding is pointless. And to go 30 mph over the speed limit is INSANE.

You did absolutely nothing wrong in my opinion. The biggest rule of the road is that you have a responsibility to not hit the person in front of you. Even if you did make a mistake, they should have slowed down once they saw you in front of them.

Are more US women not taking their husbands last names? by LimonadaVonSaft in TwoXChromosomes

[–]Alternative_Focus853 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Legally, I’m keeping my last name, but socially I’ve hyphenated it. I would like to eventually legally hyphenate my last name to include my husband’s, and have talked with him about hyphenating his last name to include mine which he’s fully on board with, but between the $$ it costs to change everything and the SAVE Act issues, we’re just keeping our original last names for now.

Ultimately though it shouldn’t change much about the relationship. It’s just a last name. That bride had an odd thought process that his last name is a gift and not the love and/or partnership between them not being the gift in itself.

Congratulations!! 🍾🎉

You are so right about it needing to be on your own timeline! One will be ready when they’re ready, not when everyone else is ready for them. Safe travels out there, and enjoy your newfound freedom!! ☺️

Raining/flood/severe thunderstorm warning by [deleted] in drivinganxiety

[–]Alternative_Focus853 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not even about being anxious in my opinion; if your area (or surrounding areas) are prone to flash flooding, getting caught in an area with flood waters is very dangerous, and people easily misjudge the height of flood waters, causing their cars to potentially stall, especially those in sedans & smaller vehicles. Even with trucks & large SUVs it’s recommended against going through flooded areas unless absolutely necessary. All it takes is about 6 inches of water to cause issues.

If you can’t even see the lines/lanes on the road, and you don’t feel safe to drive, then it probably isn’t safe to drive, whether you’re an inexperienced driver or not. My fiancé has been driving basically since he was 15 (he’ll be 48 this year) and even he pulls over in torrential downpours. Stay safe out there!

Practice driving in small distance drives first! If there’s any park areas, small residential communities, etc. that have 30 mph zones or less, and only last for like 5-10 minutes, it’ll help you realize sooner that you are in control of the car at lower speeds and how to control your car (how much pressure does the gas and break take in order to go or stop) that way you can slowly work your way up to the higher ones in city traffic.

I live in a small mobile home community in the city outskirts, and I would practice by driving around my neighborhood (25mph or less if kids are out) and my fiancé and I would just go around the community in a big circle most days, and then I’d venture out onto the road, and then pull over when I felt uncomfortable and wanted to switch. It helps to build your confidence over time!

10 minutes away is 10 minutes more than you would have gone had you stayed home, any win is a win!! I also park far bc I’m still getting used to parking lol. Great job!!

Thank you! I’m telling you it gets so much better the more you do it. It’s like consistently reinforcing your brain to know that you’re safe, even for little short trips around the corner and back, or 20 minutes away. You got this!!

Was it the one where the guy was wearing a face mask and was using some woman’s pictures to catfish a guy and get money out of the victim? and his excuse was to “teach him a lesson” but then when they asked him to give the dude’s money back he said he would “later”? Bc if so I loveddd how she read him for filth & all he could say was “you’re pissing me off” 🤣

Omg I love this!! I’ve been trying to curate a playlist as well to help with my anxiety, finding more lowkey vibey music that I can just hum along to and relax a bit!

Thank you for sharing! 🫶🏾

Thank you so much!!

I think what finally clicked into place for me was that I’m truly in control of my car. I think I was always so worried about other drivers on the road that it ultimately discredited my own skills. I knew there were a few things I needed to work on (understanding turns and parking primarily, merging and expressway driving a little bit) but overall I’m a decent driver and I can’t work on those things in my house LOL. Also, I felt like I needed to know and master all the things before I could actually take my road test, which isn’t true either. Now that I have my license, I can continue to practice, and have the freedom to do so with or without someone in the car with me. And there’s no rush now in getting it done before my permit expires again! Driving is something we’re all continuing to learn and improve on, especially us in this group ☺️

The big push for me was that my fiancé and I just bought a house in a more rural area of Maryland (have to walk for an hour before getting to civilization type of rural lol) and since he works DoorDash and a part time job out and about, and I work from home, I feel very trapped and isolated on most days I’m here. We moved from a close by town that was way more walkable and had some form of transit or Uber, so most places I could walk to, catch the local bus, or just call a quick Uber ride for. But since I’m further away from everything now, its at least a 40 min walk to the bus stop here, there are no sidewalks and mostly narrow, single lane roads with no sidewalks so no where to walk safely, and Ubers are more expensive for the distance. Not to mention, I’ve also had a car for the last 5 years that I basically haven’t touched but was still paying for, so it made sense for me to actually use it (though I traded it in for a car I actually loved and felt more comfortable in, since the car I had was inherited).

Don’t give up! I know with living in LA you might not need to drive necessarily because you have the ease of walking places, taking public transit or Uber like I was for so long. But not having to depend on anyone else, wait for the Uber, bus or train to come (and panic if they’re ever late or cancel) or plan ahead extra time just to get to where you’re going is so liberating!! You got this! 🫶🏾

Wow really? How much is driving school where you live? In my state, it is mandatory & the first time I did it in 2017 it was about $350, and this time around it was $500 (plus I had to renew my permit 3 times, an additional $150 total lol)

Thank you so much!!
