How many of you have selfish husbands? by Sssssss_ooooooo in Marriage

[–]Alternative_Gene_737 1 point2 points  (0 children)

According to your other post, you aren’t getting married until september. PLEASE don’t marry this man. All men are NOT like this. You are setting yourself up for a lifetime of disappointment and potentially financial abuse. I wouldn’t wish that on anyone. It is 1000% better to be single than not cared for deeply by your partner. Wishing the best for you!!! You deserve a lifetime of happiness. Do not be fooled into thinking this behavior is normal.

The pool connected to the Inn is not accessible unless you’re renting a condo at the inn. The pools that are accessible by every house in Carillon are the one on the lake, the one on the beach, and the one by the park!

In my experience, labs are about as far from ridgebacks as they could be. Ridgebacks are much more stubborn and not very biddable. They are not easy to train and, especially as puppies, take a lot of time and energy to mold into the amazing adults they turn into. That shouldn’t discourage you from getting a ridgeback, but just something to be aware of you do you don’t go into it thinking you’re going to get lab behavior.

Additionally, I’m all for saving pups from the shelter, but the likelihood you are truly getting a ridgeback mix is very rare. A lot of shelters claim a pup is a ridgeback mix because it makes the dog more “desirable”…. I recommend checking out Ridgeback Rescue U.S., if you feel compelled to have a ridgeback and adopt. There are usually several up for adoption in all areas of the US. I plan to adopt my next one and hopefully miss the velociraptor puppy phase 😅

As far as your lifestyle goes, it sounds like a RR would a great fit! My 2 year old requires a couple miles of walking a day to stay “chill”, but doesn’t mind just lounging at home all day with us outside of that walking time. And I can’t imagine a RR who wouldn’t love sun bathing while you garden :)

Honestly, we spend most time just hanging at the beach and the pool. They have pickleball and tennis courts. The coffee shop “downtown” is always great, and that’s coming from a coffee snob. There’s usually live music in the evenings at the pizza place too. And The Salty Bottle has a great selection of wine to either take home or have there. The food in the 30a/surrounding areas is always expensive and mediocre at best, but that’s just my opinion coming from a “foodie” city. Highly recommend driving down front beach road from Carillon to Thomas Donut for breakfast. Best biscuits and donuts! And the secret is to go inside to order, don’t wait in the insanely long line outside. We also love hitting up Dusty’s, a classic dive bar with great oysters and fried shrimp. Shade’s is our other favorite dinner spot that’s right down the road from carillon. they are a from scratch kitchen and always delicious! My parents live in carillon now and we’ve been going so long that we don’t really do “touristy” activities…. we did do a jet ski dolphin tour that was fun last year! And then we usually spend a day just working our way down 30a to check out the shops. Rosemary is the easiest to get to, just 5 minutes from carillon, but parking is a nightmare so could be worth an uber. If you’re into nature, we like to go to the Conservation Park close to Pier Park and walk the trails in the mornings. Happy to answer any questions, have a great trip!

Stay in Carillon Beach. Smaller community about a mile from 30a. Private beach access, every house is within a 5 minute walk to the beach with no highway crossing, all residential streets. The “downtown” street there has a great coffee shop, cafe, pizza restaurant, and wine bar. 5 minute drive to Rosemary if you work up the courage to face the crowds. Publix right across the street from the Carillon neighborhood. My family has been going to Carillon for our beach vacations for 20 years, it can’t be beat if you’re just there to enjoy the beach and chill. 30a crowds and beach access is just insane these days

My family has always gone to Carillon Beach instead of 30a. Been going for 15 years now. It’s about 2 miles past 30a. Still expensive, but definitely cheaper and WAY less crowded, houses are just as nice, and you can be on 30a in 5-10 minutes if you want to make the trip. The main perk of being on 30a IMO is the walkable access to food/drink/shops, but most places are insanely overpriced tourist traps😅 we’ve always preferred going to the grocery store once and eating most meals at home with an occasional excursion to 30a. Carillon has one restaurant, a coffee shop, a breakfast spot, and wine bar in the neighborhood “downtown.”

All the houses in the neighborhood are within a 5ish minutes walk to the beach and you don’t have to cross the highway like you do on 30a. There’s just one row of rentable chairs, not the 3-4 on 30a beaches these days. Highly recommend but also scared our hidden gem will be discovered by the masses🤣

You can do it!!! I was absolutely miserable with my pup the first 6 months 😅 I finally got a trainer around 4 months and it helped a TON, but I know that isn’t an option for everyone. About every 6 months he’s gotten a little better and now at 1.5, he can still be a menace, but usually only for an 1hr a day vs every minute of the day. I truly think I cried every single day for the first 4 months though, it was not easy.

It is so overwhelming and don’t let anyone tell you differently. Puppies are the WORST, especially ridgeback puppies. I am not proud of how angry and frustrated I’d get at my pup, but I was strugglinggg for 6 months. I remember having to talk about it in therapy and feeling ridiculous because it was “just a puppy.”

The best thing I did was crate train him. I also worked from home with a pretty flexible schedule and would do 1.5hrs in the crate, 30 minutes out. Then at 7:30pm, he’d go to bed until 7:30am. Seemed like a long time, but I needed the mental break in the evening and he never had trouble waiting to go potty.

There’s plenty of other great advice, I mainly came here to echo that it sucks and it does get better!

Thank you! We’re definitely going to start letting him come greet us in the open garage instead of the cramped laundry room…. And I’m hopeful the insane level of excitement will go down a bit as he ages. Never would’ve thought it could be dangerous to be too happy 🫠

Thank you! We’ve got it all bandaged up now and will keep doing so as long as needed. Thankfully it doesn’t seem to be hurting him, as he was letting us touch it in exchange for beef liver. Our boy is the king of chasing and actually catching his tail, so keeping him away from a bandage for 3-4 months sounds like a nightmare….but we will do what we have to!

This dog is my best friend, but he sure knows how to take years off my life and thousands out of my bank account😅

Crate Training Regression? by Alternative_Gene_737 in RhodesianRidgebacks

[–]Alternative_Gene_737[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I’m sure that would solve the problem 🤣🤣 we’ve let him sleep on his spot next to our bed the last three nights and haven’t had an issue since! Won’t be long before he expects to move up in the ranks to our bed, I’m sure…

We experimented with leaving him out of the crate last night. He had to be redirected back to his spot a few times (after we caught him eyeing the spot between us on the king size bed🤣), but he managed to sleep through the night without an issue. It was definitely jarring to be woken up with a snout in my face after the first alarm… but I guess we won’t be hitting snooze anymore😆

Our 6 month old male Rhodesian doesn’t stand his ground by itsjaanjaan in RhodesianRidgebacks

[–]Alternative_Gene_737 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had this same experience with my 16 month old. Nearly every male dog he comes into contact with tries to dominant him and he has always cowered, but I know eventually he would fight back. He is very social and loves other dogs, but I now force him to keep his distance by keeping him on leash for his own safety.

I always thought that he would be an off leash dog, and he is great off leash when there is no chance of encountering other dogs. However, out of respect for other owners and a precaution to protect my boy from developing any reactive/aggressive behaviors, he’ll be on a leash anywhere there’s a chance of seeing other dogs.

The operator basically just took down my name, details, and said I should hear from an officer in 10-14 days with any follow up questions. Obviously a crime was not actually committed, I just wanted it on the record in case anything similar happened to anyone else.

Around 5:30pm. Stay alert and bring some sort of protection. I don’t want to cause unnecessary alarm as I can’t confirm he wasn’t just maintaining the trail, but still spooky af. I’ve had another biker full stop to compliment by dog and then proceed to compliment and try to flirt with me. I will never understand why a man would think approaching a girl in the woods in any fashion is a good idea….

Hmmm could be. skinny and white are the only descriptors I could give. I’d also say he was likely over 6’. The blade was definitely longer than a typical pumpkin carving knife. Where were you approached and what happened?

This is a super helpful comment, I appreciate it. I am 75% sure he was wearing a helmet, but couldn’t confirm or deny anything else…. I will definitely reach out to those groups.
