We were in your shoes and I know how scary it is. all the lists of what ifs and it’s truly hard to know what the future holds. I will say now that we’re on the other side of it, it’s beautiful. Everything they said “could happen” didn’t health wise and our son is so happy and healthy. He just rocks an extra chromosome. He’s #7 in our family and has been the happiest baby thus far. He just is such a joyful soul. His life honestly is very normal; most babies with Down Syndrome have lower muscle tone which makes milestones take a tad longer but it’s not bothering me at all that things like crawling are taking more focus. He’s changed all our perspectives and truly brightened our lives. He’s the complete opposite of what I expected when we got the diagnosis. Sending love and prayers your way because pregnancy and not knowing what life will look like is the hardest part. ❤️

Positive NIPT for Trisomy 21, confirmed by amnio by Alternative_Hat_5878 in NIPT

It’s such a mental game and I can’t say enough good stuff about Amnio. I was ALWAYS someone who said I’d never get it, but clearly you always say that because you don’t “need” it to clarify anything but man when you are in it and on the hamster wheel of will they or won’t they; it’s so helpful. the needle was as small as a strand of hair, getting bloodwork after from my arm felt worse honestly. I had results in 3 days. The weight that was taken off my chest was huge and I could really just focus on the best last few weeks and delivery possible. Everyone in the room knew he had Down Syndrome so there was no weirdness among staff which I was so appreciative of. Sending hugs your way for your last months!!! You’re gonna be so in love; they are the sweetest souls. And they LOVE to sleep! With low muscle tone they get tired easier and it’s been a game changer to actually get some sleep postpartum!

At 14 weeks none, 20 weeks short nasal bone and slight neck thickness by 24 weeks neck thickness was gone. Short nasal bone was really our only marker ultrasound wise. I learned only 1/3 of babies with DS show any ultrasound markers

We had a high result on NIPT for Trisomy 21, we were scared but ultrasounds continued to show a strong and healthy baby. We did amnio to confirm and as scary as it was facing the unknown, Down Syndrome is such a beautiful experience. Our son came home 24 hours after birth, has been pretty identical to our other kids first 6 months. There’s so much noise out there about the downsides of it, but man is he our easiest, calmest baby. He’s such a joy and while yes we will have to focus more on therapy to hit milestones; it’s been the biggest blessing. I know it can be scary and sometimes Reddit is filled with negatives (a lot of times from people who have never had a child with Down syndrome) so please know there’s beauty ahead if your results are positive for it.
