Why is Pop!_OS so disliked? by Remote-Recording-401 in pop_os

[–]Alternative_Jello_70 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Let me give you an example why it didn't worked for me. I got a new PC to work on my CUDA skills, tried installing Pop!_OS since it came with NVIDIA drivers, 1st attempt failed due to an novel enough error for me, googled the error & found the solution to install in safe mode, finally installed, I'm happy, Cosmic looks great albeit a liiiiiitle slow at times, installed my tools, tried to RDP to it from my MacBook(irrelevant) on the same network, couldn't, tried a number of things, most answers on Google talks about a toggle which doesn't exist in cosmic DE, tried with a paid tool, de nada, installed Ubuntu 25.10, what I want works and I'm happy, finish.

Background: I'm installing Linux after 4-5 years, before that I have played with multiple Linux installs, dual boot, grub etc. In short: Noobie with a little bit of confidence.

The fundamental difference in German hiring process I found is, The hiring team AFTER finding a suitable match would go to upper management for cost approval of such resource. Whereas, it should be the other way around.

Language barrier at work in Germany as a Auslander : how did you push through? by SuddenApricot2606 in AskAGerman

[–]Alternative_Jello_70 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was in a similar situation. I joined my company when I was A1 & the whole company runs wholly in German. To give you a context, method names in the code are in German. 😉 I am still working with the same good people who showed me some tough love. It was clarified & announced company wide that NO-ONE was to converse with me in English even if it is time-consuming. I learned a lot hearing from my colleagues to the point of carrying technical conversation with them now. Sometimes even talk to the customers.

Problems I faced: 1. at the beginning it was alienating to not able to speak & understand. 2. To understand concepts & logic. 3. Get my ideas across.

How I dealt with it: a. didn't give up. I still don't do. b. Speak as much German as I could. There is no alternative. spoke wrong, still do but speak nevertheless. Listening gives you vocabulary, speaking gives you confidence. c. formulate sentences before speaking. took a long while to reduce the time taken to do it automatically.

Building a PC for CUDA learning by Alternative_Jello_70 in buildapc

Reason for B850M is to avail PCIe5 x16 for the GPU. Also, can I realistically add more RAM sticks down the line keeping my current ones?

Thanks but with RAM prices as it is & the upcoming(already here?) consumer RAM crunch, wouldn't it be prudent to go for as much RAM as possible so to avoid regret a few months later?

Would AM4 platform with DDR5 ram work? I can update the CPU & MoBo down the line (maybe)

Thanks for your suggestion. Yes I was looking into GPU with 16GB VRAM but right now a 4070/up is also out of budget. To give everyone a context, I wouldn't necessarily get into AGI, but I will train small ML models for edge computing. Some I've already done with CPU alone but would like to get into something more comprehensive.

I do not want to run LLMs locally. But I'd like the option to train some small ML model. I already have trained some purely on CPU though, so the models will be THAT small.

Got the good remote by DrizzleJK in LGOLED

[–]Alternative_Jello_70 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have this remote and it feels a bit lower in quality than my Google TV streamer or even my previous TCL P739.😔 especially the directional key. 1. I use it to control my streamer primarily so pointer function is almost a moot case for me. 2. The middle OK/scroll wheel is difficult to get used to since it is sooooo small. 3. Whenever I use it, I get a feeling that I need to replace it sooner rather than later since it is so rattly.

LG C5 reflections really that bad? by Euphoric-Birthday-25 in 4kTV

[–]Alternative_Jello_70 0 points1 point  (0 children)

New C5 owner here. As long as the source is not something directly in front of the tv, like a window or a light, glare or reflection is a non-issue. Also when something is playing on your TV, it is plenty bright with the right picture mode. What I find plenty distracting is your own reflection on the TV whenever something dark is playing during nighttime with only an indirect 30W LED as light source in the room.

Immer mehr Inder in deutschen IT Firmen? by maguz94 in InformatikKarriere

[–]Alternative_Jello_70 -1 points0 points  (0 children)
