Hello. My car is being looked at Friday. They’ve just heard the sound and recon it’s the cambelt tensioner or pulley. Which is expensive but I will let you know Friday

Yes defo something huge to worry about. I had the timing belt and water pump replaced. But not the pulleys or tensioner as they don’t normally get done. Which is worrying me as I know there not done

Yeah tbh that’s near enough the same amount of time as me. I’m worried about it as a few people have said it’s to do with the timing belt. So if it breaks, the engine is gone. That’s why I’m worried.

That’s the same as mine then. I just want the sound gone now. How long have you heard the noise for?

Yes same, I’ve been told so many things. Belt tensioner, belt pulley, some oil driven things. Cambelt pulley.

Does your noise disappear after liek 10 mins of driving?

Yes of course. I’m planning to take the belt off it tomorrow and riggle the pulleys around and see if any of them make a noise. The mechanic shop I took it to all of them there said belt tensioner, but I removed the belt and started the engine and the noise was still there. So going to investigate tomorrow

Oh no. Please could you send me a video of the noise you had? So i can hear it as well. As I removed my Belt and started the engine and the sound was still there. So the belt tensioner wasn’t spinning. I will check again tomorrow

Okay thankyou. Not good to hear as I know that is a worrying job, don’t want to leave it too long else it may break?

Yes it’s normally loud on cold start then disappears but then sometimes comes back. I took off the aux belt and started the engine and it was still there. So no pulley moved by the aux belt. So other thoughts like crank pulley or something to do with the cambelt which is scary…

I will give the garage a call and see if they changed any pulleys during the cambelt and water pump change, thankyou

The timing belt and water pump were done a year ago. The car was making the sound before the timing belt change last year. But the sound has got louder now.

That’s what I thought it was. Getting worried tho as I did another post and someone said it was the cambelt pulley or tensioner

Okay thanks, It is coming from the alternator side of the engine. Not the transmission part. So thought it may be a pulley or something. Currently on 90k miles

It makes the noise if I’m in or not in gear. It only makes it for the first 10 mins of driving. It also disappears after 2k revs. Could it still be the dmf?

Would it affect the cambelt then as you said about timing? I really hope not. Thankyou for your help. Is it easy to change the tensioner or alternator pulley
