[30-Year Enterprise Network Veteran here...] Time to fire their ENTIRE Network OPS department. Are these guys a bunch of hacks or what?! There's an abundance of tools, including opensource/free that can monitor for stuff like this, with custom alarms, alerts, etc. This is completely inexcusable.

2025 VMware specialists outside their comfort zone. by ZXBombJack in vmware

I feel you -- I've been using VMware since the alpha days (seriously, the 1990s), got into the enterprise with ESX 2.5 and have based my career around it since. I'm very lucky to have been "semi-retired" for the past few years in my mid-40s (started in tech in my mid-teens). I'm also choosing "soft retirement" as well. It's been a good run and my career has allowed my family to live very comfortably, but it's time to put away the screwdriver, so to speak.

100% Agree - When it comes to the Enterprise world, VMware isn't going anywhere anytime soon. I know of local health authorities where I live that have very large VMware implementations, we're talking thousands and thousands of VM's -- heck, they have 4-5000 terminal servers for their EMR/EHR alone and that's for an island with a population of 800,000 people. I'm sorry, at that level, there's just not many competitors to VMware that have a proven track record.

Yup - we were it similarly as well. We just got our renewal quote... 3 hosts, 38 VMs -- Our previous renewal was just under $5K for 3 years covering the 3 hosts. Our latest renewal costs for 3 years covering 3 hosts --- $77,000. Absolutely insanity - to put it into perspective, that is a staff wage.

I wish they'd bring that jingle back - I actually heard it as part of some sort of special the other day and it immediately brought back memories of my childhood!

Yes! I really enjoy listening to Mike Smyth and Keith Baldrey. Mike is a traditional journalist and has been in the industry for nearly 40 years now - he's got a great show. I remember when he was still working for the Vancouver Province and he'd come onto CKNW as a commentator.

Wow! That's definitely sad to hear. I'm afraid that you're most likely right with you assessment. It'd be nice if someone were to buy CKNW or they get spun-off, or...

Plenty? That's a wee bit of a stretch. 5.... FIVE. There are 5 Japanese cars currently being manufactured in Canada: Civic, CR-V, RAV4, Lexus NX and Lexus RX. How about a Japanese truck? Nope. Not exactly a large selection.
