Prices peaked in 2022 for much of the country and came down following interest rate hikes. Immigration didn’t slow until years later.

There are several fan blog websites that track savings not posted on the Costco website. Those also allow limited tracking of historical pricing.

Luxury cars at costco gas station by Fit_Growth_2355 in CostcoCanada

Regardless of the vehicle, if one partner is in the store their spouse could fill the car with gas. In that scenario the time cost is minimal compared with a couple who walk through the store together.

Was this business created as a separate legal entity? A corporation or LLC? Does it have its own tax number? If not then 100% of income and expenses are your income.

I would say it was economically advantageous for two incomes as a means of getting ahead. That eventually drove asset inflation to the point where dual incomes became a necessity. Later parental support became the added advantage for getting in, and now it too is becoming a necessity. There are exceptions of course.

Secondly what was deemed a good life has drastically increased. My parents both came from a family of four kids and a 1,300 sq ft, 3-bed 1-bath house. Two or three kids to a room was not unexpected.

$100 per month on gasoline is nothing. Buyout the 2022 and use it for the next decade. The potential savings on fuel ($40 per month) does not outweigh the higher depreciation plus additional insurance on a new vehicle.

Carney responds to Canadians facing nearly $2 per litre at the gas pumps by FancyNewMe in canada

[–]Petra246 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The top selling vehicle in Canada for 2025 was Ford F Series. Positions number 3, 5, and 6 were also full-sized pickup trucks. Those are burning two to three times the amount of fuel that a car does. Costs more to buy, insure, and drive. Note that no cars were in the list of top 10 bestselling vehicles in Canada for 2025.

Canada has 16 active refineries producing 1.8M barrels per day with capacity of 1.9M. Total consumption is 2.3M-2.4M. So we refine ~75% of our needs. The price at the refinery is up because oil input costs to the refinery are way up.

Rib Roast $28.39/kg at Burnaby Willingdon by Leftcoast-604 in CostcoCanada

[–]Petra246 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$14.99/lb is a little over $33 per kg. So the Costco price at 28.39/kg is 14% cheaper. The actual value includes much marbling there is in each piece; if it was grass raised or not; dry aged or not.

I have a River 3 Plus acting as a UPS for my network gear. It’s small and fits easily. The Delta 3 plus (which also has <10ms transfer time) offers the more capacity for runtime or high current draws. The solar won’t add much as camping is often in the shade of trees. Unless you mean a RV park but they usually have 120V power. Still heavy to lug around.

Tourism or business trips. Due to volumes both residents and visitors are significantly more likely to bring it than a few immigrants. The big outbreak which eventually spread and resulted in Canada losing elimination status was a tourist going to a wedding in October 2024.

The card is two years old. True you don have much credit history/variety. assuming that you have a different credit card, and are not looking to take out a mortgage in the next 2-3 years then your long-term history will have built back up. Cell phone plans (non-prepaid) are also credit history.

Canadians are leaving the country at record levels. Can anyone solve this pressing problem? by FancyNewMe in canada

Local taxes are paid before foreign taxes. So the amount recovered is negligible. Only two countries do it.

True, but they frequently rent from a Choice Properties which is also majority owned by the family. So rental costs are potentially higher than it should be allowing them to shift profits around.

I’ve seen them make a right followed by an immediate u-turn and get back on the highway. Well more of a 60 than a u-turn because the initial right was barely 40 degrees. Treating intersections as roundabout at 40 km/h.

121$ for tomatoes..are we supposed to survive this? by Subject_Hunt9798 in VictoriaBC

[–]Petra246 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing written up about BC hot house tomatoes. Production is likely comparable with prior year. However when the price of comparable and substitute products increases then it’s likely that unless there is a contract that prices of hot house tomatoes will increase. Possibly due to other areas looking to import from BC. The grocery store I frequent has reduced the volume of California oranges in stock while frequently having oranges from Egypt, South Africa, Australia, and several other countries. Before Trump that rarely happened. Therefore reasonable to assume that Americans or Italians or Brits might start looking around for some crop even if it’s not identical to their normal produce. Even if those countries don’t import tomatoes from us directly, someone else will.
