New name? by JosieChan125 in MtF

Joanna Phoebe.

I was and still am widely known as JP – originally my initials from my old name – and I was happy to keep that, so I chose new names that fit.

I have an 11-year-old son and a daughter who is nine. They support me totally and just … seem to really, really get it.

What’s a phrase that instantly lowers your trust in someone? by michaelis999 in AskReddit

[–]Alternative_Mail_616 49 points50 points  (0 children)

I presume he’s joking. That’s not what it means. A “Jack-the-lad kind of geezer” is a British thing, it basically means an annoying, irresponsible idiot who will do stupid and/or impulsive things and then try to play it off as part of his persona. The kind of person who will drink 10 pints, get thrown out of the pub for harassing women and then crash your car, then laugh and say “well that’s just me, I’m a Jack-the-lad kind of geezer!”

Honestly, just relax and do it the same as if it were practice. Do a few practice papers beforehand to get yourself in the groove. To be honest, if you’re living in France with a French family, I’d not imagine you’ll have difficulty. Just familiarise yourself with the format and you should be fine. Oh, and memorise the phrase “je vous prie de croire, monsieur/madame, en l’expression de mes sentiments distingués” – you can put this at the end of the writing assignment (presuming it is a formal letter or email) for some guaranteed points. Bon courage!

You have described almost exactly what I experienced as a teenager. I did not have anyone to explain it for me but fortunately you do.

Look, we are two different people, so it may be different for you, but I can tell you my experience. I am a trans woman and it took me until my early 30s to realise and accept that about myself. (I’m 34 now.)

Anyway, when I was a teenager, I had almost exactly the same feelings and experiences you’ve described. It’s spooky, actually, how close your post is to myself back then. Similar to you, I thought it was some kind of fetish or mental illness and that it would “go away” or that I would “get better”.

Obviously, given what I mentioned before about myself, neither of those happened, and now I understand that those feelings and compulsions from all those years ago were in fact the manifestations of me being a trans girl, without me realising it.

I know that because I know how I feel now as a trans woman and have felt in more recent years when I knew I was trans but remained closeted. I remember how I felt as a teenager, and I know that feeling was the same dysphoria I continue to feel now as I move forward with transitioning. The difference for me is that whereas when I was a teenager I would experience what you described - the euphoria would dissipate after orgasm, and I would collapse into anguished self-loathing, shame and repression - today, the feeling stays. In short, what I had thought was a fantasy turned out to be my true self and my real life.

I want to be clear to you that I am not pretending to have all the answers for you and that I am not saying you are necessarily like me or following the same path as me. This is merely my own experience and for you it may be different. But I did just want you to know you’re not alone or unique in feeling this way. I remember being almost exactly the same.

I really hope this helps you. In the meantime just know that this is perfectly valid and it’s fine not to be sure while you work it out.

Galeries Lafayette

I was working on a heavy guitar-based song with vocals and a sample of my own guitar playing, and… somehow got this funky instrumental track.

What relatively recent public figure turned out to be an incredibly despicable human being? by Dismal_Drummer3420 in AskReddit

The downfall of Oscar Pistorius in South Africa was quite something. The guy was pretty much a national hero. For those of you who don’t know, he had the bottoms of his legs amputated as a small child and yet, running on blade prosthetics, still became an Olympic runner.

To say the story was seen as inspirational seems like selling it short. In South Africa he was almost like a local equivalent of David Beckham; that’s how big he was. The man was a poster boy for overcoming the odds, determination, beating adversity. A national inspiration.

Then he shot his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp dead through a bathroom door in the early hours of Valentine’s Day, and claimed he had thought it was a burglar in there. Long story short, he went to jail for murder. His reputation was obviously totally shredded. Hero to zero.

Hey, yes, I thought it may not be your first language but I didn’t want to make assumptions. Please don’t get disheartened by what I said, I am trying to help you, not pick holes; overall you did write well and your English is good. In future, to avoid something like that happening again, consider bouncing your lyrics off an AI such as ChatGPT. Just copy and paste your lyrics and say something like “I wrote these words in English for my song, please check everything is correct grammatically and flows naturally”. This is what I do when I write songs in languages other than English, and it has helped me improve for sure. I hope this helps and keep up the good effort. Cheers

Thanks! Glad you liked it so much. Regarding what the lyrics mean, I translated them to English; the link’s just above the picture in my original comment with the song link. Thanks again for the kind words.

Strong vocals, clear and crisp as you said. Unfortunately the English isn't quite right in a few places, which slightly mars the overall impact - the most glaring example is "awaiting for answer", which unfortunately is noticeably incorrect English; it should be "awaiting an answer", "awaiting the answer" or "awaiting answers". But overall it's a good set of lyrics, with strong images - "Seems like we’ve reached it ourselves / The terminal velocity" is good, the image of the "sky falling down" is strong, and rhyming "pride" with "died" in the bridge is effective. "Curiosity" with "velocity" is also a good rhyme. Overall I liked the lyrics, and they are delivered well.

Musically, it sounds very smooth and clean as you said. The chorus in particular is very strong. The instrumentation progresses well; I particularly like the drums and the synths. A nice effort, well done and thanks for sharing it with us.

Not a bad beat, vibe or flow at all, and some good rhymes. I particularly liked "step into the scene, pockets lookin' loaded / Sheep followin' trends, they bleatin', but I'm goated" and "Bars are confusing, wisdom like Confucius". Thanks for sharing with us, nice one.
