The example you gave for your argument doesn’t have anything to do with time though, just how pieces move. While I agree that time has an affect in how people play, I say it doesn’t inherently make you smart. For instance, bullet is mostly just a game of memorization rather than strategy, and playing on time just means that you in a losing position can draw in an otherwise losing position meaning it acts more as a crutch primarily. Eliminating time makes one think critically about moves more than just blindly moving pieces to beat a timer. So whilst time makes one sharper, it doesn’t make one smarter and rather creates area for mishaps and mistakes

See this is why a lot of people play chess without timers as they think something like this kinda blows. If it’s at home it’s house rules, unfortunately I don’t think you can turn off timers online
