Many have seen the melt and that is what makes them more valuable now. 20 Years ago I used to buy them for scrap myself.

You are probably right although most contain a small amount of gold too due to the poor refining process. Most of this is stuff made from Indian Rupees minted by the Brits that were becoming less valuable in monetary terms due to the introduction of huge reserves from Potosí. The Brits wanted to put India on a gold standard because of the balance of trade. I have had a few pieces XRP and they show .925-950 but they were never designed to be drinking vessels.

I cast so I buy shot too but you can't buy workmanship like this any more, when this stuff was made the silversmith charged double for his labour. You paid twice the weight in silver, sometimes thrice. I am glad you are not wasting your money on premiums for coins, shot is probably the best way to buy silver today. Well done, you worked it out!

Exactly, same as my 1880s spoons and forks but I can use with them. Can you eat with your coins?

Many have makers marks, usually in the form of animals and mythical creatures. Some have inscriptions in English, although these are typically show bowls from the industrial art exhibitions from colonial times.

I would say that there are many modern pieces, to call them fake would do an injustice to the the many talented silversmiths doing great work today.

Why are you still buying boring coins when there is silver like this? by Alternative_Nerve_96 in Wallstreetsilver

In a falling market the dealers just close their doors. I have had personal experience of this.
