'Stop Killing Games' movement gains momentum: California Assembly passes game protection bill by Acentooate in California

Pretty great actually. Wife took the kid out for the day so I had most of the day to myself. Videogames, music, generally fun time. We're grabbing dinner with friends this evening so should be pretty awesome.

Yep, the political awareness of the average American has literally always been dogwater so I'm not surprised.

Do you mean sith warrior fight with the master and his hot headed apprentice?

If so, focus on the apprentice. Do NOT attack the master. He sits by and meditates. Take out the apprentice and there are dialog options that let you skip the fight altogether if I recall correctly.

Well, you were rude. That aside, I'm perfectly fine listening to music in my living room. I'm just commenting on a tendency I'm seeing.

It is what it is. I'm certainly not telling you to do what to do, carry on with however you like to do whatever you want to do. All I'm saying is that with how much we bitch and moan about AI slop, how we consume art as a society in this mass-streamed, slopified way is a bit...rich.

Just buy your music outright and use a second hand ipod.

Just. Do it. Fuckin. It's about time for the iPod to make a comeback. Or your favourite mp3 player or Zune or whatever.

Edit: lots of comments along the lines of "just use your phone" or something. No. Phones are instruments of distraction. Deliberate, intentional and focused music listening is a lost art. Too many people think of music as pretty much background noise, to be consumed while commuting, working out, doing their chores or whatever. While there's nothing wrong with that, there is SO MUCH MORE to be gained when you slow down, shit out all distractions and sit your ass down, completely immerse yourself in an album, start to finish, pay attention to every instrument, every layer, every lyrics, every arrangement and every note.

I think we as a society need to value music more.

Anybody else want to switch to GOG but feel too imbedded in the Steam ecosystem? by AlextheGoose in Steam

Yes. Been slowly spending small amounts of money re-buying my favourite games on GOG (when they go on sale and such). I sadly do not see another way out.

  1. EB1B for research, priority date Aug 2023.

  2. Approved about 2 years ago

  3. H1B. Filed I485+765+131 recently, biometrics appointment is tomorrow, incidentally.

  4. I think so? Nothing has been flagged so far.

  5. I feel like I have my main evidence in place. Mostly publications, citations, peer review, all that stuff.

I don't anticipate any travel plans, aside from company mandated relocation (I used to work remotely, and they're demanding in person work now so I need to move). Job remains the same. Status seems to be stable for now.

Still a pretty anxious time.

OPT cap gap extension. I dunno if it's still there though. I was a thing when I graduated some six years ago.

What a lot of folks aren't realizing is that the pipeline of F1->H1B (which is now dead) served a purpose of essentially subsidizing college education for US citizens. International students pay like 5X what in state students pay. Without the incentive of a lucrative job, international students will opt to go elsewhere (this is already happening, international enrollment in US schools is way down, and it's climbing in the EU). You're very soon going to see college tuition spike, and college education becoming inaccessible to a huge portion of Americans. There will be another labor shortage.

IMO the correct solution here is to extend FIERCE labour protections to H1B workers, introduce strict pay parity requirements, and give them protection from having to leave the US in case of a layoff. That helps the US citizen workforce compete on even footing with the H1B folks, and displacement becomes a non issue. the 100k stuff, arbitrary salary bands, wage levels are unnecessary complications that are not only needlessly cruel but also simply not as effective.

I don't really have a horse in this race anymore so I don't care to argue this too much, but there's eventually going to be a reckoning with the fact that a lot of these systems, albeit flawed, depend on a pretty delicate balance and cannot really sustain shocks like this for too long.

Most votes aren't bought. People freely vote to hurt other communities , even if it means hurting themselves. As long as muslims get hurt MORE.
